so... I know this is flightinfo, but here goes.

Let's just say that in a perfect world, both companies (DAL and CAL) hire a couple hundred folks this year (after CAL brings everyone back). I've looked into some previous threads, and let's also assume that DAL and CAL won't merge with the pick of the week (United, Alaska, etc.). Now, the biggest assumption is that let's say a guy with 28 years left for a career was hired by both companies the same day, and had to make a decision... what would be the best short and long term: career progression, pay and benefits, retirement and "security" - and why (aircraft deliveries, retirements in a few years, contract dates, etc).

Thanks in advance!!!

Good friend of mine DID get hired by both companies within a day or two of each other a few years back.

He chose Delta.

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

Interview with both (if you're lucky)
then..
Get hired by both (if you're REALLY lucky)
then..

Flip a coin if you don't live right next to one of their major hubs.

Reality is, I didn't get hired by Delta, but got hired by CAL-
Had I been at Delta, I would be having a better QoL, and have made over 50 grand more so far (3 years).
But-
Who knows what the future will hold..
If we get an Industry Leading Contract (C08) then it might all be a wash.
If we merge, I hope to be in a better position than I would have been at the new Delta.

But only time will tell~

I was one of those lucky guys and chose DAL. Making that phone call to CAL was one of the most difficult of my life as they hired me first and I was very excited just to get the thmbs up.

Both great companies IMHO, but in the end I'd wanted to work at D since I was a kid and the contract -- at least for the first few years on the property -- was much better.

Everybody (airlines) has their time to be the flavor of the week. So best bet is to flip a coin as previously stated.

CAL sucks....
Had 2 friends leave CAL for DAL.... I have yet to hear of anyone leaving DAL for CAL!

Either place is probably better than where you are. I have friends that love cal. It is a good place to hang your hat.

I am pretty sure that Delta has established a firm stance of no new pilots this year, so I guess your only choice might be CAL..... but then when UAL and CAL merge, what will you do?

Maybe DAL has a firm stance of no new pilots this year but CAL has pilots on furlough so by looking at that metric alone would indicate DAL would hire first.

Delta all the way. No compression with CAL. Delta contract, pilot group and future is much better in all aspects. Even if you live in one of CAL bases you will regret going here.
But it is much harder to get hired by Delta. Good luck!

I know a few people that left CAL for SWA. One had to do with the no medical for 6 months as a new hire.
Never heard of anyone going the other way. Good way of getting that 737 type rating for free though.

Let revisit this statement in six months.
