NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Delta Air Lines Inc. /quotes/comstock/13*!dal/quotes/nls/dal (DAL 8.33, -0.69, -7.65%) reported a third-quarter loss Thursday of $161 million, or 19 cents a share, compared to a loss of $50 million, or 13 cents a share, in the year-ago period. On an adjusted basis, the Atlanta carrier said it earned 6 cents a share. Analysts polled by FactSet Research were looking for a loss of 5 cents a share, on average. Total operating revenue declined 21% to $7.6 billion.

Yep RA's "Synergies" are really kicking in now!!!!!

-Sky is the limit! Be sure to grab yours before this stock goes a rocket trip to the moon!

(It is turning out just like every other airline mega-merger.... I hate to say "I told you so," but damn if I didn't.)

BTW, "Excluding certain items, it recorded an adjusted profit of $51 million, or 6 cents a share in the latest quarter."

"Certain items" like "synergy." I have stated it a million times-anyone who falls for that silly "synergy" B.S. is a fool. No one who can figure out what the hell a balance sheet is about would buy into that line for a minute.

-What happened to the promises of profits, which were just around the corner if oil prices just dropped back below $100? What about the fact that they were about $60 for this entire quarter-the supposedly most profitable one of the year?

-Maybe some of this is related to the fact that the stock has gone absolutely nowhere since the IPO. Maybe pilots don't agree with me, but investors with enough money to affect the stock price sure as hell do.

In the article, Delta talks about reducing capacity 3% in 2010 vs 2009. Have these reductions been announced previously or these new reductions? Domestic or international capacity reductions?

I hate to say I told you so, but you really are a horses ass!
Considering that the stock has doubled since March of 09, I'd say that my investment has made me more money in 7 months than you have made giving out BJ's at $5 a pop, for the past 10 years!
Your persistance is noted, and laughed at.
Now get back to the fryer junior boy. I'm sure you boss doesn't like you on the Wendy's office computer during your break!

Have you had your head up your a$$ for the last 2 years genius? It's called a recession. Yields were down for all airlines, even SWA barely made money. Compare to the other majors, I'll take this all day long, especially our cash position. As far as investors, if you put money into airline stocks, I have a hard time calling someone an investor. Back to the RJ with you, enjoy!

Once again, we see complete B.S. accounting at work. Some of these charges were related to "imparment of goodwill."

-Lest anyone here not be familiar with how this works-DAL claim a huge amount of "goodwill" as an asset to get the merger through-now it looks like it is time for some of this "goodwill" to need to be taken off the books-legally.

http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2008-07-16-delta-q1-reuters_N.htm

So, let's see-we just make up a completely intangible asset, assign a completely arbitrary value to that asset, claim it as an asset to fool congress into approving the merger, but wait-now it has to come off the books, and this time, this little accounting gimmick is the bane of profitability. (This may be legal for large corporations, but if you or I did anything like this on our taxes, we would be in jail PDQ.) Plus-it is a silly parlor trick. I guess RA and DS fooled who he needed to fool-for now.

How many times are you people gonna keeping making lame excuses for this type of leadership? RA is just running a scam, and not a very good one.

Sorry you were and never will be hired at Delta.

Try to do something more constructive with your time, rather than trying to bash this company OVER and OVER incessantly.

A lot of employees are trying to make this thing work. In addition, they are also fearful of what is to come because of the economy. Nowhere in your diatribe do you mention the fact that there has been a downturn in the global economic environment. Instead you choose to castigate this company because it makes you feel good.

Are you going to be there to praise us when we turn this thing around? I am willing to bet you will find a way to tear it all down. BUt I may be wrong. I hope not for your sake.

I castigate because I think this merger was a huge mistake. NWA mgmt. is wrecking a once-great airline, and it uses cheap parlor tricks like this one to pull it off.

It is unfortunate for your company, but the economy is not the reason you are losing so much money. If anyone at DAL had any sense, they would be working on the board every day for changes at the top. The current guys will drive you into the ground if they are at the helm long enough.

-Believe it now, or find it impossibble to ignore later-I really don't care. Fact is you are screwed as long as these guys run the show.

Way to go Delta! Looks like the Genital was right. Those international routes are really starting to kick in. Wait until Song is at full speed. You guys can't be stopped! From losing money that is.

Perhaps another round of pay cuts will help. I'm sure you guys are already sugesting them. Or if mgt hints at them, you'll gladly grab your ankles and take another one for Song...er....Delta!

Please every press release that delta has put out in the last 9 years has basically said that they would have bought america excluding special charges, special writedowns, special this special that... They are experts at shining $hit

I like the way you boiled it all down. Sad state of affairs.

From the conference call the capacity reductions are in 50 seat aircraft specifically segments over 750 miles. The funny part, the guy inquiring about it says "A personal thanks for the reduction in 50 seat aircraft." lol

Funny how DL pilots think the special charges don't actually count.

Funny how if you had a degree and ANY sort of economic sense, you'd obviously know it's all about cash on hand after EBITDAR.... Our cash went up, hmmmm, how'd that happen....it's called an operating profit.

Back when you were sucking off Brutus learning to fly, the government changed reporting rules and now special charges became transparent to expose depreciation writeoffs......

So yes, they do count but cash on hand is all that matters.......good idea to know what you are talking about before throwing arrows.

They are going to lose a couple of hundred million dollars. That's the standard Delta quarterly loss. Looks like that won't be changing any time soon.

WOW!!! We get Tanker, CRJ567, and 9rj9 to comment??? Jealousy has many avatars!!!

Somebody rename this thread to "A-HOLE CHECK IN!"

Special Charges count, but we are in the middle of the worlds largest merger.

Also, when operational profit, the banks will still loan to us. Em the little details.

If you had "any sort of economic sense" you would understand that a decade of straight losses is not sustainable. You might also recognize that write-offs related to "goodwill-AKA-NWA's synergies" is complete monkey crap.

-I am not a damn bit jealous of your position-not for one second.

You might also want to take a moment and realize that the airlines of today are not designed to make gobs of money. They are the host for all of the fleas to suck off of.

Yes you are jealous, I'll bet that RJ job keeps you happy right?...Did Mommy not hug you enough or was she just the type to be rough and say "Here!! Take this 70,000 dollar check and become a Pilot!"??

Cash on hand junior, Cash on Hand....maybe if you went somewhere after High School, you'd know what counts.

O.K., Champ, if "Cash on hand" is so easy to play with, and such a discretionary item, why did it not wind up in the "profit" column?

(I know the correct answer-and it has a lot to do with things which lead to bankruptcy.)

-Choose to look at this however you wish, but that little trickle back in the engine room ain't getting no smaller.
