DL is not giving up on Key West to AirTran...should be interesting to see DL and Airtran fighting down in EYW!!! I think DL will win this one then go back to only ASA flying the route again. (For those of you that don't know Airtran is planning a 4x weekly ATL-MCO-EYW flight).

How many passengers can you put on a 737-700 departing Key West on a 4800 ft. runway? What about when the temperature is high 80's?

Forums indicate:
At Max Gross LDG Wgt--LDG Dist. is about 2600 ft., touching down 1000 ft from beginning of R/W--Dry with MAX Auto Braking

TO--no problem carrying 100 pax + 200 bags + 3.5 hours fuels(20,000lb) at 85 degrees and 4800 ft of Runway

100 paxs at what Delta charges....CASH MONEY BABY!! EYW one of Deltas most profitable routes. The prices DL was charging for EYW, was only a matter of time.

AirTran announced service to EYW. This, I believe is why Mainline is serving Key West. Strictly competition. I know of one commuter out of EYW, so his commute just got easier. Glad for him.

Airtran is stopping in MCO before going to ATL. They are not nonstop.

Bye Bye--General Lee

There goes Delta, taking our flying again.

Once Airtran enters the route plus all that additional capacity the yield will likely fall precipitously.

Yeah, for about a month. Then they will pull out because the yields are not high enough. You would have thought they would have learned their lesson when American ran them out of West Coast flying in DFW.

Good luck taxiing that 737 without dropping a main in the grass when turning in and out of the ramp along with the narrow taxiways. What about the wing span that could take out a tail on a GA plane sitting there?..Just curious!!
