This one's better...starring a real pilot (cliff robertson) in real aiplanes (30 series DC-8's) dealing with real issues (A boozer pilot and nosy lead FA)
Technically accurate with great footage of a classic airplane, right down to where he pulls the cap off the aileron trim wheel to look at the porn inside, which any DC-8 driver knows it's stashed in there.

Oh, you guys are WAY off. You just can't beat a delta-winged SST with big ol' honkin' short-ducted high by-pass turbofans, and Mr. Brady as Capt to boot!

Seriously, +1 on The Pilot. And Fred, you know we have to kill you now for revealing the secret of the DC-8:laugh:

Firefox Starring Clint Eastwood. Cheesy, but still entertaining none the less.

This was a great old movie about the airmail days (the beginning of the MAJOR airlines, so, moderaters, you can leave it here! LOL) based on an E.K Gann book. It's not out on DVD, but according to TCM, if they get enough votes, it could be released on DVD.
So here it is, vote!

Thanks!

Dan, thanks for that. I read the synopsis and I did not recognize it. I soloed in 1951 and I thought I had seen them all. I'd also guess that most of the guy's ( oh yeah, and girls) on this board don't know who Dan Roman is either. <grin>

I voted so I hope it comes out.

True!!!!

Another one is "Islands in the Sky" starring the Duke-based on "Fate is the Hunter" by Ernest Ghann

Actually, it's based on a small part of "Fate is the Hunter". There is a movie called "Fate is the Hunter" starring Glen Ford but it bears very little resemblence to the book and is so awful, Ernie tried to have his name removed from the credits.

BTW, in reference to the section in "Fate is the Hunter" that "Island in the Sky" is based on, does anyone know what the "arrow in the snow" meant?

Dan Roman? I think he was the first FO in history to use his version of CRM on the Captain!!!

How about The Big Lift. All about 1940s AMC; well wasn't AMC back then
I don't think it was even MATS, but it's a great movie, especially since all the military personnel in the film except for the two main characters were, at the time, actual active duty military folks .

Personal Favorite: A GUY NAMED JOE. 1943. Spencer Tracey, Esther Williams, Irene Dunne, Van Johnson, etc.

WWII movie. There was a remake of the original with a little different theme.....ALWAYS. 1989. Richard Dreyfuss, John Goodman, Holly Hunter, Brad Johnson, Audrey Hepburn, etc.

Both available on DVD/Video.

It was about the Berlin Airlift and that was run by Troop Carrier. I got into Troop Carrier shortly afer that. Troop Carrier heavy were C-54 units. Troop Carrier medium were C-47, C-46 and C-82 units.

Anyone heard of "Top Gun?" It's an okay '80s flick.

It's about fighter pilots, men playing volley ball, and men showering together.
