Well you probably lucked out. Probably Compass or getting in at RAH at the right time. But for 95% of the regional pilots they aren't gonna see that in just 3-5 years.

How many professional jobs put you in a big city and expect you to live on less then 20k a year?

Sadly, with a growing labor pool, as long as people are willing to take a job for whatever low wage or salary is offered, the longer that it will be offered! Supply and Demand!

I think the real issue is whether being an airline pilot is even a professional job any longer. Most professionals, i.e. Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants, Psychologists,... even an Auto Mechanic can use their skills to hang their own shingle and operate on their own. For an airline pilot there is no such thing.

We are all temps, in a skilled trade, and right now there's just too many of us for anyone to want to pay for our ubiquitous service.

It would be interesting to look at that graph and see the correlation to lower pay and stupid actions by pilots that lead to deaths... Oh wait. Never mind.

Off the top of my head for the last 5 or 6 yrs:

Colgan: 50(+2)
Comair: 49
MAG: (~21)
Pinnacle: 2

Not sure if you were being smart or making a legitimate point, but I fail to see a correlation.

Note, counts in parenthesis were deaths that I attribute to stupid actions by maintenance, not pilots.

He also said pilots. The Mesa one was caused by mechanics

for those of you who bash other regionals-kiss off. Like you were sellected at your high and mighty regional because of your awesome qualifications and resume'. Most of us took the first regional job we were offered-I for one how Pinnacle gets a great contract and more flying and I work for Mesaba. I must say this, our system is broke and ALPA needs to do something about it. I do not know what, we are too divided to come together and figure somehting out. But one thing is for sure, is that if all Delta carriers had the same pay and work rules, then delta would not be able to play us off against one another. that might be a start. But throw skywest in there.....they fly for everyone it seems...maybe let them pay their pilots a little more as they do have good pay, I wouuld hate to make them get lower pay! good luck all.

But that would make sense, and ALPA wouldn't know how to do that.

Exactly. All the regionals are entry level airline positions that have been boosted unintentially (through ignorance of large unions and smart planning and luck by mgmt) into more career type positions without the workrules, lifestyle, or safety culture of a career type carrier.

It's rare for someone to have been super selective between the jet regionals with a few exceptions (gojet... etc). I applied to and pursued ASA and Pinnacle... Pinnacle called me first.
