The A320 must be a really easy airplane. All those FMS 101 classes they do at emory dribble sitting hours at a time on a simulated flight really paid off for the guy.

Spirit was hiring people directly from Riddle during the "shortage."

I am not defending this at all, however here are the facts as I remember...

Spirit hired 8 ERAU people because the DO, at the time, was a ERAU graduate and he thought it would be nice to give something back to ERAU.

The 8 were given 100 hours of IOE, which they planned for, I think one went over the 100 hours.

They had to fly with a check airman once a month or every other month or something like that to track their proficiency. They were scheduled to have a PC at 6 months and one at 12 months again to check their proficiency.

Man,that's pretty bad when half your multi time was IOE.

Spirit and the FAA don't require an ATP ?? thought it was age 23 min for the ATP... I for one would walk right back off the jetway if I was boarding the acft and saw this Kid on the flight deck in uniform.. otherwise I would probably think it was just a snot nose kid getting a tour... geezzz. aren't there enough experienced folks on the street to hire before we sink this low.. really...

So what I have been flying jets since i was 21.

Yeah, one of the low-time ERAU alum Spirit furloughees interviewed at Colgan the same day I did . No such thing as a free lunch!
