My CFI is expiring this month. This is the first time ever that I cannot renew it on the basis of being a check airman. I keep getting these online courses ads in the mail. Any advice on these, which is best, are they worth it ?
Thanks

You won't be disappointed. TRUST ME.

You can knock it out in a couple of hours over the course of several days. They'll even file all the paperwork for you. It's quick and easy.

I've got the lifetime renewal with American Flyers (pay once, use it every time for no additional cost)...and I still pay for other services each time. It's that poor.

I've used the Jeppesen renewal; it's fine. AOPA had one, but I think it was the Jeppesen course...worked fine. The Gleim one is good. Anything but the Americal Flyers, course, in fact.

I just used the Jeppesen/AOPA one last month. They file all the paperwork for you as well, just have to print some things, get them notarized and mail them to AOPA. It's pretty good. If you've been renewing on the basis of being a check airman, there's going to be a lot of new stuff (unless you do a lot of GA flying on the side). Last time around I renewed based on being a 135 instructor, but before that I had used Jeppesen also. During the four years in between, they seem to have added a lot more acronyms!

I was a big fan of the American Flyers program because of the pay once, use forever concept.

Used Gleim this year though and wasn't disappointed.

The material is good and you can keep it as others have pointed out. If you want to bend the rules you can finish it in under 2hrs. They also toss in an FSSA certificate and a free ground instructor endorsement if you are out of currency on it.

I used Gleim for my last two renewals. Was very happy both times. Can't remember the price, I think it was around $90 or so, but I could be wrong.

I use American Flyers lifetime renewal bought it about 6 years ago. Call your local FSDO when done and their ops inspectors can do your renewal online and Email your temporary.
