Funny when he canceled w/ Lauer, Lauer insisted they were still going to have the 1st interview. Ha Ha.

"Hero pilot giving first interview to Katie Couric

NEW YORK – Katie Couric has landed the first interview with hero pilot Chesley Sullenberger, who brought his distressed plane down in the Hudson River with all his passengers surviving.
The interview with Sullenberger and his crew will be shown on CBS' "60 Minutes" on Feb. 8.
It's a coup for Couric — and it may have come at the expense of her old show. Sullenberger had been set to speak first to Matt Lauer of NBC's "Today" show, but that interview was postponed during the investigation of U.S. Airways Flight 1549 and its water landing on Jan. 15."

No prob if I'm here (or someone else remembers)...I just set to record 60 mins each new episode until it airs (just in case I forget)

If anyone has DirecTV w/ DVR, go to

enter 60 Minutes>
Select it on the main local channel>
"Record SERIES"
Episode type: "First Run"
"Record as Set"

That way you won't forget and can cancel the series record later after the Fe 8 episode airs...I think cable and other DVRs can do the same.

Doug Parker CEO Hotline Transcript
Week: Jan. 20/Flight 1549

Hello everyone. This is Doug and I’m updating the hotline on January 20th.

Flight 1549 continues to be on everyone’s minds, and I want to say, again, how proud we are of the crew and how relieved we are for our passengers. The press is calling this accident the “Miracle on Hudson,” but all of us know that what our crew did on the Hudson was not a
miracle, but an example of great skill and professionalism produced by years of training and experience. Words like amazing have been used to describe the outcome, but an event like this is also a reminder of why our crews train and prepare as hard as they do
.

We’ve always known the extraordinary value of our professional pilots and flight attendants, and this event highlighted this truth for the rest of the world. I can’t tell you how happy I am to see the world better recognize and respect the skills and professionalism of all of our pilots
and flight attendants and airline employees in general. With that, just another thank you to Captain Sully Sullenberger, First Officer Jeff Skiles and Flight Attendants Doreen Welsh, Sheila Dail and Donna Dent.

Also, we’re extremely grateful for the way the people of New York City, and the surrounding areas, pulled together to help the passengers and crew of flight 1549. Captain Sullenberger has also passed along his thanks and that of Jeff, Doreen, Shelia and Donna to the first
emergency responders on the scene and to the support employees who assisted on this accident.

On that note, there are too many people here to name, but our Flight Ops and Safety Departments, who will continue to assist in the NTSB investigation, are also to be applauded.
From our Family Support Center and Care Teams to the many other numerous support teams that immediately sprung into action after the accident…thank you on behalf of US Airways.

In the days ahead, our crew will be working with their union leaders and with the company to determine how best to proceed with the numerous media requests and how best to allow our employees to thank the crew and everyone else that supported this effort. We will also continue to assist the NTSB in their investigation. And all of us will continue to take care of our customers.

Thanks to all of you who have helped keep our airline running during this time. Whether you assisted directly with the Flight 1549 response or continued to take care of our customers who have flown us in the days since, and will in the days ahead, you are all important to the success of US Airways.

Doug Parker
CEO, USAirways

I'm poor. No DVR or cable/sat. service. :(

I've plugged it into my electronic reminder.

BTW, why did 60 minutes get the interview first? I guess they're seen as a more authentic journalism outlet vs. the pop feel of the Today show perhaps.

I'm guessing that's why...but who knows...personally I would have requested a different interviewer, but 60 Minutes is a good choice.

Do you have a converter box? I have two of the one below, and will likely cancel all satellite/pay services soon (though I would miss that DVR):

This converter box is actually pretty amazing. With NO cable or other service whatsoever attached, it gets an amazing # of channels, and seems HD clear, even though we just have a regular tv. A lot of people say you need to get a set top antenna, but we just used a bit of foil and got several VERY clear channels without one. You get all the main local channels (ABC, NBC, CS, FOX local) and here we also get a slew of other channels that aren't really exciting, but much more than I expected for
free. It is $54.99 at Radio Shack (but if you can wait for the $40 gift cards off each from the site below, it's only $14.99---the program ran out of $ but there is a long waiting list, so someday they may send more):

I really researched the boxes and this one was by far the best rated, and one of the few that will also work with a VCR or other recording device. I think I could seriously live without all the other channels, since the majority of decent shows are on the locals...the DVR is nice but I a sure there will be a reasonably priced stand alone soon. (We MAY even own the DirecTv one, because I believe we "bought" it on a deal where it was $99 + a $99 rebate... so maybe that would work without service? Who knows)

Definitely something to think about for anyone in this economy, and this particular one is great. (Digital Stream DTX9900 Digital to Analog Converter Box)

Also, if you have a good library there are a ton of movies (even new releases) there

Personally, I don't think Sully should do any interviews. I don't know his talking skills but he's already created a mystique and hero status to people around the country and world. He should leave well enough alone. I hope he doesn't sound like a Sara Palin, Caroline Kennedy or Tom Cruise.

Turn on O'Reilly (Fox News) now 8:15p to 9p
There is some big "scandal" he said is brewing and will talk about tonight re: "why are the pilots on LOCKDOWN?" He alluded to more (going on at the airline) than just not talking until Sunday....we'll see what it actually is...prob nothing and he's mad because he didn't get an interview....
Going to commercial right now, but he said coming up and "Geraldo will analyze" :puke:

8:20 p (eastern) with Geraldo now, just went to last commercial ...said "bizarro stuff going on with this plane...really bizarro" details right after commercial
