There has been alot of rumors of CAL and XJT merging. Can anyone at either carrier support these rumors as fact? If so, what would the benefit of this merger to CAL and XJT?

Never going to happen. The big question would be why? And second I think the SEC would have something to say seeing as they sold them at a profit and then set the price of their CPA which drove the price of their stock and now wants to buy them at a discount.

BTW this rumor is only going around XJT not CAL.

Ever since CAL sold of XJT the "they are going to buy us back rumor" has been going around. The only reason it could make sense would be to get around the scope limit, the annoucement was supposed to take place a few days ago..........it ain't happening.

How would buying XJT get around Scope limits?

It would be 1 seniority list as per the XJT ALPA contract, and since it would then be one list they could put whatever type of aircraft on it. I may have an incorrect understanding of this hypothetical but regardless it won't be happening anyway so it doesn't matter. If CAL wants 70/90 seaters they can have mainline pilots fly them. The XJT pilot contract requires the pilot seniority lists to be merged in the event of a merger or aquisition, SkyWest wanted us to waive that clause before they bought us.

Make sure it is DOH for the seniority merge! It is what's FAIR.......tic

Bye Bye--General Lee

If CAL really wanted to get 170s or 190s they would just get them if they can't get the pilots to change the scope.

XJT doesn't need to be a part of CAL in order for CAL to augment their fleet.

Never happen! We don't need that anchor weighting us down.

DOH, ......well........, maybe then we'll talk!!! LOL

That's funny. I jumpseat on CAL all the time from
St. Louis and CAL guys seem to talk about it as well.

I see good things never die. That rumor was around back in the mid 90's when I was there.

they were the same company....Continental owned continental express (as it was called back then)...geessss!!!

Really? Because I haven't seen a CAL airplane in STL in years. Maybe some of the commuting pilots at CAL who hear this all the time from the XJT pilots on the jumpseats they ride might be talking about it. I heard it from about 5 XJT pilots yet nobody at CAL is hearing this rumor. If it did happen it would be a staple, period. I doubt it will happen though as CAL can fly 70-90 seat jets without purchasing XJT and their pilots.

Why would there be a merging of lists at all? When XJT was wholly owned before, the lists were separate. They could do that again. But what is the business purpose of buying a regional? Everyone seems to have learned a lesson from the Comair strike back in the day. Diversify feed, pit one regional against another, and keep costs low. Its why pokemyhole took a pay cut last year.

Holy January 2001 Batman! Anybody seen Doc Brown and that flying Delorian cause I'd rather not relive the last 8 years of this profession.

where is the donkey??? This is great, big carrot hey we're going to work on this merger deal.... but only if you guys can take another 10% paycut. Really, we're workin on it. DOH and everything. all rj fo's will be sitting in the 787 right seat by 2011... if it ever flies

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaa

Is there a Darwin award for stupid rumors and people that believe them?

If it ever did happen, it would be a staple. I could care less if we merge, but it'll be a staple. It would give me job security and give XJT guys career progression. Other than that....keep dreaming.
