Looks like all B747Fs will be gone in twelve months. No replacement freighter aircraft are coming. Soon to be belly freight business only. That is all.

A Delta friend of mine here in South FLA said the SCO will be early next year. How will that affect the NWA and DL guys with these planes leaving?

I wonder if that means a pullout of ANC alltogether. I heard AS may be adding ANC-MSP.

RA and crew

Also said something about neither Boeing or Airbus want to produce a 100 seat jet, and that the DC9 will be around for a while, and that DAL (feeders) have way too many RJ's

Anderson and Bastian

Good thing there is that little furlough clause in the SLI for the DAL guys. Such a sweet deal, DAL parks NWA airplanes under the guise of a combined company, yet only NWA guys will take the hit. Almost as if the arbitrators knew this would happen.....

Huh? The plan was to park those before the merger. Be grateful the DC9's are sticking around longer than planned under Delta. I am.

As for "hits" - my displacement today wasn't all that happy an occasion.

Where are you headed, Fins?

Incorrect, the 12 that are here were "supposed" to stay. There are currently about 210 pilots based there, with around 180 of them "senior". They will displace to whatever they can hold, and then 6 months later, the freeze is up and let the games begin. The waterfall effect with unfortunately get both sides.

Sorry about your displacement. So much for all the "growth" that was spewed pre-SLI huh?

Whether they were "supposed" to stay or not is a big question mark. I think few should be surprised when a fuel inefficient, 25 year old airframe that has seen a 60% drop off in block hours is retired.

After looking at all the facts, neutral arbitrators stated the following concerning the aging 747F fleet at NWA:

"Questions exist, as well, as to the future of Northwest freighter business both from an equipment standpoint and in terms of the general business outlook. The 747-200 freighters attached to that enterprise are uncompetitive in an increasingly competitive arena for cargo operations and it is unclear to what extent this would have remained a vital operation for NWA.28 Market conditions have changed dramatically since 2005, when demand for air cargo lift was high, particularly on routes from Asia to America.29 NWA has encountered a meaningful drop-off in demand in several of the routes served by NWA.30 Fuel prices have caused the 25-year-old Northwest 747’s to be uneconomic, Chinese carriers are providing more competition and NWA has dropped its daily service to Guangzhou, China.31 . In addition to being less fuel-efficient, the 747’s in the NWA fleet are smaller and have a shorter range than the 747-400’s flown by competitors. 32 The reduction in the freight fleet has been from 14 airplanes down to 10 and block hours have been decreased by 60%.33 As of September of 2008, Northwest has dropped Narita/Bangkok, Singapore/Hong Kong, Narita/Manila, Narita/Taipei, Shanghai/Anchorage, Bangkok/Singapore, and Hong Kong/Manila.34"

This is still a rumor at this point...

Heyas Clippy,

The interesting thing is that several of the Pacific routes have frequencies that are linked to "freight only".

If the 747F rumor is true, then mama DAL must be willing to give those frequencies up completely. They can't be sold outright because they are entangled with the passenger authorities.

They might try to negotiate a conversion of some of the freighter slots into pax/freight slots. If that's the case, any aircraft that fly in a former freight slot could be considered a "replacement aircraft" since the 747-200s were fenced in the award.

I smell an arbitration if it comes to that...

Speaking of 747Fs, I have noticed alot more parked over by the NE corner @ MIA days on end with no movement at all. And the DC10Fs also.
