Just got the email from the People Dept. that they aren't expecting any new hire classes this year at SWA. What a bummer!

Also said that after 18 months in the pool you are subject to re-interview or new background checks..

Good luck everyone...

This is news? '09 is shaping up to be a crappy year, but things can change quickly around here. Hope to fly with all you poolies soon!

I think I remember seeing a piece of rope in my garage long enough to hang myself with.... going to check.....:erm:

Yep, got the same email. Big downer. Trying to think positive and hope the December numbers improvement over '07 becomes a trend for '09. Maybe then we'll get another email, this one a bit more uplifting.

Best of luck in '09 to all fellow poolies.

yes, as far as I can tell. I was in the pool post 9/11 (for 2 years 2 months) and there was never any mention of re-interview. I'm pretty disappointed in SWA about that little tidbit.

yeah...kind of jacked up...specially since they are still interviewing but not running classes. hey your hired...but wait...no your not! family oriented though!

Different airlines, different time, but UAL dumped their pool in 2003. They had a few hundred waiting for classes. Probably because with 1000 plus on furlough, it was very evident no one was leaving the pool. The sad thing is when UAL started hiring again recently, those previously in the pool were treated like the never had been hired. Have a friend who was told he had to re-apply.

I think this is a temporary lull in growth for SWA for obvious reasons.

Good luck to all.

Probably best. They would have gotten hired and furloughed.
