I haven't put in my .02 about PFT for a while, but let me just say not all PFT is the same.

Obviously, I think there's a consensus that carrying passengers in required positon that you paid for is wrong. If no one paid for that positon, these Gulfstreams and what not would be forced to pay for FOs.

On the other hand, there are Alpines and Ameriflights out there that will take an FO if they want, or fly single pilot without them. I don't have a problem with this. Guys who go through these programs have an uphill battle to face once they're done. Airline interviewers know these programs, and if something doesn't look quite right, they'll err on the safe side and leave them on the street. I've seen it at all levels too, from canyon tours to cargo to 121 airlines.
 
From the linked PDF, it sounds like the F/O needs to look outside the damn airplane! Staring at the PFD below 200 ft on a visual, that's a little scary.
 
Well I think its pretty obvious here that 300 hr pilots dont need to be in any of the front seats of jets.

So 300 hour pilots don't have the ability to fly jets?

I fully agree with the poster, depending on the program. It seemed like a sweeping generalization of all 300 hour pilots. I went through a college 141 program and would have been nowhere near ready to fly for the regionals, at 300 hours. Heck even after instructing for a few hundred hours, I think it would have been pretty challenging.

But don't some of those ab initio programs, in Europe, get their guys flying at 300 hours? I'm sure it has it's flaws but isn't that how alot of the airlines do it over there? Is this incident the norm over there or is this just an isolated event?

I was not going to bring in the whole UPT thing, that is a whole different animal. As was stated before, that is like comparing apples to bowling balls.

Geeez. How long is PCL gonna get thrown under the PFT bus around here.

I'm sure they'll keep it up for many more years. Doesn't bother me a bit, so I'm not too worried about it.

This FO took the cheapest and shortest route possible to get his UK CPL. It's called "modular," as opposed to the more structured "integrated" courses.

I'm not surprised that a modular student had to pay for a bridge course in order to get a job and subsequently pranged an airframe.
