i have a buddy who has a class date - new to the whole regional thing - disclosed everything he knew in his background check (which was a spedding ticket)- even ran his own state police report on himself (he's also a substitue teacher) -- they still have to do the FBI background check on him -- here is the rub......he found out he has a non-felony, non-misdemaenor public intoxication (paid fine) that and airport cop was able to pull up in his records, what should he do?

And NO...its not me!
 
Two choices....Try to show up for class and hope no one finds out....which he will have to sweat for an entire year on probation if they find out...or.....immediately go to a chief pilot and explain how it was just a ticket you paid and it didn't come up in the interview. After the interview you were thinking about it and wanted to make sure it didn't come up an issue later. Show good faith. Then take what you get. That would be my advice. If they find out that it wasn't disclosed and they find out on there own....fired for sure.

Did they ask about any arrests, if not leave it be. They could care less. Also how did he forget about it.
 
but now that it is on a public message board which company people check on a reg basis for both fun and prob work, you just caused the hiring people to go digging with a fine tooth comb. i would erase the first post and have your buddy pay 100 bucks or so to expunge it, and then i would have him come clean with someone.
 
Mesaba has hired guys with dui's that Mesaba knew about when they called them for interviews. Point being I don't think it will be an issue if he brings it to light. If they know. If it comes as a surprise in a background check...good luck. Then they feel lied to. And yes the applications cover disclosing tickets and run-ins with the law after age 17.

Couldn't care less about arrests? You are taking that a little too far. Airlines care about prior arrests. There isn't an airline app on the planet that doesn't ask.
 
Be upfront about it. Honesty is always the best policy. It will help him avoid being the "vanishing new hire" on day 4 of Indoc.
 
I would be up front, I know a guy with the same type of deal. Minor consumption. He forgot about it, Got hired and it came in the background check. Let put it this way. He doesn't work for that regional.

I think people get too wrapped up about this kind of stuff prepping for an interview. I'm sure there are perfect people in this world and I'm sure they are very boring as well.
I have walked into 3 airline interviews and said that when I was 19 I was young and stupid. Here is what happened... I got all 3 jobs and each time had the impression I recieved points for being honest.
Trying to do damage control after the interview is probably too late. However not disclosing a skeleton in the closet will get you thrown out of indoc after about 3 days. Seen it a couple times.

Generally, HR or security find something on the FBI record before class, they might call for an explanation. Some applications do not ask if you have any prior arrest records. You might want to have a chat with the HR person who will do the background check for feedback and discuss it with the CP.

Be upfront on the situation and get a copy of the disposition from the court. The FBI records typically only show the arrest charge but not the outcome.

This is an important point. The FBI is required to receive a copy of the arrest (report and mugshot) from the local LE dept. and the disposition of the case is supposed to be sent to the FBI and updated. This in many cases does not occur. You need to get a copy of your FBI background and anything that isnt correct needs to be handled by your local court and they have to submit the update (charges dismissed, felony, etc.) to the FBI for correction.

You can request an FBI report - just send them a few dollars and your prints. Just go to their website.

Just curious which airline you are referring to?
 
yeah I was hired at a regional but refused employment for a part-time firefighter gig (you know, second job and such) all because of a "charges dropped issue" Mesaba, if I remember right never even asked when I was hired. now I am reading this I am thinking I should run to HR and disclose everything-I will do that tomorrow on ready reserve- that way if I am let go, at least I got out of ready reserve and a weekend trip! Joking ofcourse

As a Mesaba newbie myself I would strongly suggest that your buddy calls the head of HR and make him aware of it. They do ask this specific question in the interview.

Actually the law states that all files in the CJIS( Criminal Justice Information System) Have to be updated with either the final disposition or the current status of the case.
 
we have recently had problems with this same issue of pilots not disclosing skeletons in their closet, we have recently dismissed some pilots in the middle of training for these issues, in the last month of interviewing they stress the importance of disclosing everything in your background including unpaid parking tickets. Surprisingly, there are few things that will disqualify you from employment, as long as you are truthful and disclose it up front, they hate being surprised! Also be sure to fill out the online app accurately and truthfully as they will cross check this info in your interview. Good Luck, not trying to scare anyone, just an FYI, the background check will find things such as speeding tickets that are no longer on your CURRENT record. So if you know you got them, diclose them.

I was never taken to jail or fingerprinted, I don't know if the FBI has a file on me, I was issued a ticket and in 10 minutes was on my way (hardly the crime of the century). I do know that now 16 years later I can get on the internet and find that charge in less than 3 minutes for free. Information like this is very easy to obtain.

Do regionals do different checks than legacies? Or are the FBI checks using the fingerprints the same at legacies as the regionals?

I would guess that if a person has worked at several regionals and their checks always come back good, they would continue to come back good.

Best rule = always disclose anything during the application and hiring process. Honesty will never hurt.

Where did you obtain this information? I am trying to find info on a speeding ticket I got many years ago.

I don't know when he got hired. I flew with him about three years ago. It came up when he was being pulled from our last turn because we were going to Canada and he couldn't go. He said he knows of another like himself. Mesaba hired both of them knowing they would scew every pairing with Canadian destinations on them. Sucks for the other FO's that get pulled from thier pairings to cover someone elses turns.

State records generally track speeding tickets for 3,5 and 7 years. If you hold a drivers license in that state. Also there must be a adjudication of guilt for the ticket to appear on your state driving record. Most states if you go to the driver improvement course to keep the points of your license then adjudication is withheld.

I good way to start is getting your state driving record, just google the controlling state agency and you will find links on there to pull it. Also you can try the clerk of courts in the county the violation occurred, the record of the ticket usually stays with them forever. However it usually does not list a disposition.

Last thing the NDR ( National Driver Registry) only tracks major motor vehicle driving infractions, I.E... DUI and Vehicular Homicide ETC.....

Generally the restriction on VISA'S into Canada are lifted once 5 years has past. This means 5 years from the final event of sentence, last day of probation, last day in jail, day fine was paid, last DUI course take. Which ever date is the later.

Once this happens you have to apply for eligibility to the Canadian Consulate.
