I am sure this will not be popular here, but my Department is going green. I have been assigned the project to make sure we are doing everything we can to be as green as possible.

Is anyone else doing this? If so, what are you doing? We already recycle paper, cans and bottles. That is about it. Is anyone purchasing carbon off-sets (about $50 a flight hour for a large Falcon or Gulfstream)? Has anyone done a Life Cycle Analysis on their aircraft?

Any useful information will be appreciated. Most large corporations are moving in this direction. Aircraft based in Europe will now have to purchase carbon off-sets. The US can't be far behind.

Ya, take all of your crap and instead of flushing it down the toilet, use it for fertilizer.

sigh......... If they were really "green" they would quit flying their private jets as they put out far more carbon per person than airlines. Tell them to fly coach.

I dont get it??? The world goes through Ice ages and warm periods for millions of years without us and now all of a sudden its our fault.

Biggest sham of all time.

Look, I don't care that much about opinions on global warming, I have one too. We are going green like it or not, and I am only interested in useful information from those that have gone there before me.

sorry your right....

If they dont mind showing up about 10 minutes later a reduced power setting will save large amounts of fuel. Not to mention they may like the new reduced size of the fuel bill.

I work for an airline and by reducing from .75 to .68 we reduce our fuel burn from 1400-1600 lbs a side to about 1000-1200 a side per hour. 400 lbs savings and hour and only increases block times from 10-30 minutes depending on the length of the route.

We have also done extensive test on power idle descents and they save enormous amounts of fuel. Higher descent rates and deck angles though?? Especially into smaller airfields or out west we can get PD descents and it really saves a lot.

Change your light bulbs, and or Install lighting systems with motion sensors if you have a larger facilities. They will automatically shut off lights for you if you forget. Look at installing solar panels(you wont make your money back though) or Geo Thermal heating or cooling(from everything I can find you will make your money back).

Are You Serious?
Going Green Is What We Do Every Day.
We Find The Nearest Airport With Shortest Ground Delays To Save Time And Money.
We Flight Plan For Best Winds, Fuel Flows And Go To Long Range Cruise When Needed.
Not Tankering Fuel When You Dont Have To.
We Use Fbo Van Service To Hotel If We Can To Save Money Keeps Another Car Off The Roads.
We Dont Have A Hangar But Use The Same Energy Saving Tips Around The Office Will Help.

Department of Energy says Jet-A produces 21.537 pounds of CO2 per gallon burned. Perhaps a spreadsheet showing how reduced fuel burns due to operational changes has saved xxx tons of CO2 from the atmosphere would work?

On two of our very common city pairs, climb/descent profile and higher cruise altitudes resulted in an average 250lb reduction in fuel burn (12%!)...which on top of the cost savings in fuel saved about 803lb of CO2 emissions.

My LEED-accredited boss loved hearing that one!

Get rid of your Falcon and fly around in an old Gulfstream like Al Gore.

I know that I am not being helpful, but the whole CO2 global warming thing is just so ridiculous. Send me you Carbon Offset money and I will purchase a new Hybrid Lexus LX600h L and get rid of my old gas guzzler. That way we both win. Your CEO can assuage his misplaced guilt, and I get a $105K MILF magnet that gets pretty descent gas mileage.

10 years from now people will look back at the whole "Global Warming / CO2" debate and disavow all knowledge.

In the meantime.....to make this work to your benefit, tell your CEO that you need him to call 15 minutes before he arrives back at the airport, so that you don't have to sit in the airplane with the APU running.
