The problem is people don't realize how to spend their money wisely. You can live quite handsomely on a 60K income. But there is the other group of people who think they need to make 6 figures and only buy the best of the best. In times like these its good to be frugal especially if your still on 1st FO pay.

That's fantastic; all recalled with about 275 Midwest guys and gals hitting the street and perhaps the demise of MEH. Doesn't seem right! Maybe Republic pilots should be stink palmed when asking for rides.

And once again, putting blame on Republic pilots that have absolutely NOTHING to do with how Midwest got to this dire position, or that RAH pilots made this management decision on this flying for Midwest.
Midwest pilots should blame their own CEO for failing to be competitive in a crowded market (60% load factor doesn't cut it), high fuel prices, and a recession economy. Get some maturity and some education.
I agree with the statement above.. But when your in the Hotel van and you hear these guys boasting about all the new flying they are getting..You kinda wanna shove their hats down their throats...
You cannot comfortably support a family of 4 on 60k per year. On top of that, there are very few regionals that I know of that pay first officers that much. The average income for a family in 2007 was $50,233. It is pathetic an airline captain with years of experience is barely above average salary wise in this country. What is really sad is that a regional first officer cannot even make that much. That is why it is such a big deal to see companies like ATA, Midwest, Aloha, etc. go out of business while companies like Republic and Mesaba expand. It seems like there are no new well-paying jobs. Only ********************ty regional jobs. The days of going to a regional, upgrading in a year and a half, and leaving for a major are over. The regionals pay like stepping stones, but they are not stepping stones anymore.

Recall letters were sent out this weekend.
New code share to be announced DEC. Wonder if BB wife is having another one too.
Again, 25 jobs brought back paying $22.95/hour. These pilots make a base salary of $20,655/year (75 x 12 x 22.95). If these pilots are working at McDonalds or Walmart full-time, then they are taking a pay cut to return to Republic.
On a brighter note, they get to fly the almighty 170 which is a really cool airplane!!! The passengers love it and think they're on mainline. (sarcasm)

Besides that I believe the replacement workers flying Midwest routes is scablike. Note: I didn't say they are scabs. I'm sure the next post will say something about how pilots don't get to decide which routes they fly etc...
To the RAH guys excited about new flying and opportunities: probably bad form to be excited on Flightinfo when so many other companies are struggling. Just remember the flavor of the month today will be the under-bid, struggling contract carrier after the next round of BK.
To FORMER RAH pilots who accepted the job when it paid 19.75 and made it out to, oh, say NW or DL; It's REALLY bad form to constantly bitch about kids flying jumbo RJs for ******************** pay when you were there yourself less than a year ago, and accepted the job when it paid even less to start. Maybe now that you made it to the show you should be working on scope, one-list issues etc to try to get your brothers there instead of constantly bitching about guys taking the EXACT SAME PATH you did. I'm just saying.
BTW assuming Walmart or McD's paid 9 dollars an hour to start (which most don't) the full year pay is 18.7K, and I guarantee the second year pay rate at those places isn't going to be anywhere near 30K. It's pretty sad that they're even close but let's try to stay accurate with the hyperbole, huh?
And to those of you thinking "at least my RJ only has 50 seats so I'm not hurting anybody" you're fooling yourself. Just ten or so short years ago your ORD-GRR, CVG-GSO, SLC-BIL or DTW-AZO route was flown by a 727-200, 737-200, DC9-10 or F100 by guys making 3 times what we make now.
We're ALL to blame for this mess.
