So you want to fly a limited platform that might not be viable in the future when it is due for replacement for the next 29 years??? Um, Kay. That second job sure must be lucrative.

Pretty much. I was happy with the props and would be happy if we went back to props. I will admit i did not like the brasilia but If they got rid of all RJ's and got 200 new ATR's at ASA I would be fine with it. I enjoy flying and interacting with passengers.

Yes, I'm 36, have another job and have no desire to go to a major, become furlough fodder and take a pay cut. Guess that makes me dumb. So the secret to your RJ success is working 2 jobs. Well by all means lets keep the RJ's and park mainline jets with their crappy 1 job.

Not trying to hijack thread. Just pointing out that when someone says they wish all RJ's were parked that there are some of us that have built nice lives for ourselves flying those RJ's you want parked.Nice lives......that cause you to work 2 jobs?
Wow....

You are a big reason this career is going down the ********************ter.... You in essence could care less what you fly and what you make as you have a another source of PRIMARY income. You like to play airline pilot because it is fun and you like interacting with the passengers..

Man, you are bigger threat than some of these airline management teams.

There seem to be a lot of people making flying their hobby now. Right or wrong, with what has happened in this industry how can you blame them. Many pilots worked hard, did what it took to get "a dream" job and were ruined on many levels. While I agree somewhat about "part timers" many careers other than flying, have been down this path before.

When I got into this business 15 years ago, a wise captain told me, "son, make it a hobby". I'm still tryin' to.

I agree with what you say to a certain extent. I was told what you were as well, however it was flying I should take up as a hobby, not my career.

I understand working a second job after paycuts, I understand having to work a second job as some suffer through there first time building gig.

My problem is with the small group that take flying as a second career in life, could care less what they are paid as it is a second job, a job they do for fun.

There is no way we can collectively get back what was stolen from us with that type of attitude.

Agreed. You put in years at a regional, get hired at a major, and get furloughed less than a year later....
It is no wonder that thousands of regional pilots have no ambition to move to the majors.
The major MEC's created this mess by allowing outsourcing to pad their pensions or pay.

My friends at the regional who turned down the flow-through, and did not apply at other majors, now feel
sorry for me as a recent furlough.

I totally agree with making this job a hobby. I have a second source of income and will be going to law school soon. You can never diversify enough.

I also read the entire speech by RA. I think that we are really looking at some pull down. Not a ton, but a little bit to Europe. We are at a decision point as it pertains to next summers schedule. We cannot play catch up two to three months from now. I think that a big part of our decision will be the delays on our new jets. If it is only three months, we are looking at Feb-March and June delivery slots for the 777's. That is not to bad. If it is longer, you will see some other pull downs.
Also it depends if the dip we saw in bookings was temporary or a new way of life. If it is the latter we will be pulling down. As RA stated we have one model that is showing decreasing demand for the next two years. Where I see that is Northern Europe. We knew that was coming, and have been preparing wisely.
We has a society use air travel as a necessity. I mean, really who wants to drive 12+ hrs to go see grandma and grandpa with the kids. Not me. I am buying tickets this year for that. Two to three hrs on a jet is more than enough!

.

Enuffalready,

I apologize for cracking down on you, I had no right. I assumed a few things about you without actually knowing. I see this profession slowly slipping down the tubes and it brings the worst out in me.

Please accept my apologies,
