Fire Bombers? Sure. Dangerous as it gets. Soft doughy airline pilot with USA Today and a cup of Boeing brew? Not so much.

Fire bombers do not have to deal with
Screw scheduling
Management
Their own union blow hards

Death by heart attack, high-blood pressure, stroke, etc, and is ALL related to the job. It's not the actual flying, it's the rest of the BS that gets us

Let's see. In the past two weeks, just off the top of my head:

King Air 100 in Utah. Pilot and all passengers fatal.

Navajo Chieftan in Las Vegas. Pilot fatal.

Homebuilt in Vegas (being flown by professional, CFI, ATP, A&P, retired airline pilot). Pilot and two on the ground fatal.

CL-66 Turboprop cargo flight in the midwest. Three crew fatal.

P2V Neptune firebomber in Reno. Three crew fatal.

MD-8? in former Soviet republic. Dozens fatal.

Banner tower in California. Pilot fatal.

I'm sure I missed a few. This IS a difficult and dangerous profession. It's not brain surgery, but aviation is extremely intolerant of mechanical failure, neglect, or inattention.

Fly safe all and rest in peace to those gone west.

I can name a few friends I've lost in Airplane crashes. I can't name any that have died in a car crash.

Ask the Alaska guys who went in off of SBA with all souls onboard, how that last cup of MickyD coffee was. Mechanic phukks up we die, you keep telling yourself how soft and doughy this job is. Its all about selling yourself short, this industry has always been about profit and big money, and the pilots are always expendable. Managment isn't your friend, they are the enemy, they would have you flying pax while sitting on a milk crate, and wearing goggles to save money for their bonus plan instead of seat and window overhauls. Don't like your pay? Look in the mirror, the problem will be staring you in the face.

Good point and I can say the same.

PBR, that got me laughing. Thanks.

(I'm in a very poor mood today.)
No worries, I've been in a wondering WTF for the last 10 years, this industry is swirling round the porcelain and just keeps picking up speed down the pipes.
Chuckles are few and precious, enjoy!
