Howard was Duane Woerth's right hand man.....ALPA's executive administrator....

ALPA is a great stepping stone for airline management...He was a fairly young NWA pilot....Why would he make the jump?

The first thing he's going to do is restore the UAL ALPA contract and make all pilots whole. Next, he will announce that there will be no furloughs and that hiring will resume so as to increase ALPA ranks and overall dues income. Then, he will turn the controls of day-to-day flight ops over to the UAL MEC and take a hands-off approach to manangement, basically doing what the MEC tells him to do.

That will all happen in his first month if he's a true ALPA pilot and trade unionist.

Because it is unique. It also speaks to his background before he flew airliners. Some people seem to find that interesting. The recently-named MSP Chief Pilot's announcement noted that he'd been a pilot for a regional airline.

Again, sorry, but flying for Uncle Sam is not the same.

He will let that flow until they call him back for a refill. From management's point of view, that is always a good choice. For the pilots, not so much. That said, he is no worse than any other tool management would employ.

True! As you and I both know from experience...some "suits" actually apply some leadership to their duties...while others refuse to.

I'd prefer to have a pilot (as opposed to a clinical psychologist, as we had at NWA for a few years) as the VP of Flt Ops...particularly a pilot who's been an ALPA leader during a strike.
