Do they have gates big enough for the 787 in El Paso and Midland? I hear the layovers are great there!

In that case, I guess we'll just have to continue flying our "commuter" jets for more $ than all those "big airline" guys in the wide bodys.

The hubris of the SWA crowd never ceases to amaze me.

After over 24+ years of dragging the back end of pay scales and benefits in the industry and sucking up to your management friends (like flying for free at one point just to save the company, where is your self-respect?), you are the best paid by default not design. Had 9-11 not happened you would still be losing pilots to other airlines every month just like you were up and until the day the towers came down.

Don't sit around and act like this is some sort of master plan. It is just a matter of time before someone comes in and undercuts your ass when your costs too high.

airline pride kills me.... so dumb in so many ways- fly for who you want.
but at least when southwest was the lowest paid- they still made more than your average accountant.
the cuts the legacies have all taken are offensive b/c you can't progress as an adult as a junior FO. After the extended regional c-scale career-- to be rewarded w/ your current contracts.... and furloughs....
if you're at a major- you should have some perspective and just shut up.

I can't make any sense out of what you are saying; I suppose since SWA pilots made more than accountants that they did okay during the bulk of the history of their company? Thats' a defense of undercutting industry pay and benefit standards, to compare a given work group with someone outside of the industry?

The undercutting of various pilot groups is the crux of the problem. I agree with the notion of the stupidity of 'airline pride', the line pilot at SWA is no more responsible for the success of their company than a line pilot at a legacy for their travails.

"Can't progress as an adult as a junior FO"? What?

Maybe you should sober up before you post.

I'm sober.
Too sober.
My problem w/ comparing airline pilots to other airline pilots is that the HIGHEST paid regional pilot cannot qualify for a mortgage. Is he supposed to be happy that he can call himself the highest paid in his category?
You've concentrated so much on how your pay relates to other pilots, that you forgotten to compare yourself to the rest of the middle class-- and that is what allows you to buy a home and provide for your family.

The problem is that cuts got so deep during this "cycle" that major airline FO's are struggling.

Southwest has been churning out millionaires for 30 years and it's good pay and schedules from day 1... you just have no argument against that. I get your point that they have been less than what UAL used to pay- but they had great schedules and QOL- the current cuts at legacies are TOO MUCH. that's my point.

I just bought the other 787 sim that is going to be made in the next few years. You can go thru the NWA school IF you can find avalablity in the next 6 years, or I'll give you -5% off the projected training cost per pupil. SWA does require a type to interview. My cost will be $199,000 out the door. Lodging not included.

Sure he can! Working as a senior CommutAir captain, I qualified for a $125,000 mortgage a couple of years ago. You should see the kind of "palaces" you can buy in Connecticut with that kind of scratch!

In todays dollars you need about $5,800,000 to live a lifestyle anywhere near that of a millionaire.
