Food for thought: Maybe management is acting this way because they know something about not being around much longer. I'm NOT thinking as in the case of Ch 11, but more as in the case of a sale. Then everything they have done makes a little more sense (but is still highly unethical).
I'm not a huge rumor monger (who is on this board, right?). And as strange as this sounds there have been stronger rumors about SWA buying us/or just the 737's (with/without crews). However, the actions of mgt. and those of the union are starting to sway my thinking a little.
On a conference call with the union yesterday MB had a strange answer to a question about a rumor of SWA taking all the 737's and their crews and not the 717 planes and crews. Instead of his usual "I don't talk about rumors" answer, he was clear that that maneuver, while not ethical, was completely legal under our current contract. Later, he went on to state that he had every intention of getting a new contract done in 60 days regardless of the financial situation. Scope anyone?
Our management has taken some breathtakingly horrendous actions of late, actions which would bring consequences down the line, not only from frustrated employees, but investors and media as well. Let's face it, out right firing of 177 pilots so you don't have to replace 15 old guys in training, and so you wont have to pay insurance and can collect their non-vested B funds for the coffers wont play well, even in today's media. UNLESS you wont be around to suffer those consequences. I'm sure the skies of Orlando are readied with enough golden parachutes to make Disney look second rate.
The union is racing for a contract, the management is thinning the herd and stock is a buck and change. Not even our guys can squeeze blood from this turnip under these circumstances. UNLESS they have something already lined up.
Like I said...food for thought.....
