Has anyone had problems with the cabs in East Hampton? I flew my owner in there a few days ago and while he took a limo to a friends house, the FO and I took a cab. She quoted us $50 for the 30 min ride, but once we got there it was $50 EACH. Make sure you get the price in writing first, or just watch it. Complete rip off. It didn't really come out of my pocket (owner pays for everything), but what a joke.

Nothing is cheap in HTO, but try East End Cab next time. Won't try to rip you off.

It's called BAIT and SWITCH. This happened to a Flexjet buddy a few weeks ago - same location. Make sure to get a clear answer about the total cost for all occupants and bags before you step in the cab - my buddy didn't (beyond just an estimate for $50). My buddy said the cabbie in question was a woman. So, look out for her...

Why did you pay it?

I've had issues with cab companies in the past (rymes with Mellow Cab) and called the police myself to get resolution.

Don't cower to a cabbie if you are in the right. Ever. Most are 3rd world country immigrants trying to make sense of the American dream... don't get caught up in their "reality".

You got had. All you needed to do is walk away or call the police.

OK, well what if the police are called and it is a "he said she said" sort of situation where the cabbie claims he/she said $50 per person? What happens then? What can the police do? Can the customers still not pay in that situation - even if the cabbie won't budge on price? How does it get resolved in the moment with the cop there?

I guess I haven't had much experience with situations like these...

FIRST: ALWAYS ASK THE DRIVER APPROX. HOW MUCH THE FAIR WILL COST... NEVER PAY MORE THAN 10% OF THAT FIGURE!

Have no clue who the cabbie was... But can you imagine being a cop and standing there looking at Ashem Ackman Musarri and two pilots in uniform??? All the while Ashem is trying to pimp you out of another $50?? I dont think the cop would buy it.

I regularly turn down cabs for cleanliness, driver appearance... and at least once a month I call them out for BS routes. I tell them they can stop the meter now, cause I aint payin no mo! Thats when they start the Oh oh... oh.. sorry.. oh oh. sorry I new driver!

I used to work out there many years ago as a lineman and everything in that area doubles in the summer. They make absolutely no money out there during the winter time months so they price gouge during the summer time. It's a great place for the rich and famous, but bad for poor pilots like us.
