United names new chief operating officer

May 08, 2008

(AP) — United Airlines says it has named John Tague chief operating officer as part of a management shuffle aimed at streamlining the organization.
The Chicago-based carrier says Pete McDonald, the former COO, will stay with the company as chief administrative officer.
United says the move will "streamline the organization and enable the company to accelerate improvement in both revenue and cost performance." United is owned by UAL Corp. The airline is reportedly in discussions about a tie-up that could create the world's largest airline.doComments('29351','news');

OH MY GOD!

Just as a reminder. JT was CEO of ATA until the summer of 2003. He was largely responsible, if not completely, for the 1st go-round with the BK courts. He was "resigned." He then went to UAL.

Beware: Subodh Karnik and Gary Elmer are both unemployed former officers of ATA. They are directly responsible for the shutdown of ATA last month.

He is an expert at preparing companies for the END. I think his father was at the original Midway and contributed to its demise as well.

Did Tague do two stints at ATA as the CEO? I thought I heard that he did some time back in the early to mid 90's with them, but I may be wrong.

What happened to the old chief administrative officer?

Wasn't Tague running both ATA and Air South (737 operator) at the same time? I recall something bizzare like that. Yeah, he doesn't have the best rep for success in the business...

Next thing you know Dave Siegel (former USAirways CEO) will also be added to the UAL roster...

Same old UAL

What happened to the old chief administrative officer?

I would guess that the CAO position was created to give Pete M. something to do. You see, they are experts at throwing away all of the cost savings they achieved through bankruptcy on the backs of all the employees. What does a Chief Administrative Officer do anyway? Does he get to interview all the new secretaries?

He ran Vangaurd and Air South at the same time between stints at ATA

What about the new position, "VP of Employee Experience". Seriously, is that who coordinates how to screw employees more. Perhaps that person left Ford and Harrison to help United "enhance" their employee relations.
