Heyas,
Of course, if UAL is looking at AAA as a savior, it's like having the Lusitania responding to pick up the Titanic passengers.
Nu

My sincere condolences to the employees of both groups - this will be the biggest train wreck in the history of the airline business.

I predict that UAUA will be broken up and sold like PAA, and the resultant much smaller (than the sum of it's parts) airline will result in a seniority battle that makes current LCC east-west pale in comparison, plus thousands of more disenfranchised former ALPA pilots. The real irony is they USAPA will be ALPA again shortly.

So says you.

I bet you there's enough doubt since it hasn't actually been implemented that there would be enough law suits back and forth after a UAL/UAir marriage to keep you guys with separate lists and no real unified company for upwards of a decade.

Not saying Nic won't prevail, but I'm betting money the attorneys will keep it locked up for a long time - that's how they make their money after all...

What a train wreck.
I read yesterday, that keeping (2) separate pilot groups costs the company about $10M per year. That's peanuts when you consider just the increase in oil costs this year. Yes, attrition is the only way you'll see one list.....and that will take years.

Tilton and the BOD's biggest mistake was trying to hold onto UAL's enormous capacity. Mgt for the legacy's has this thing about monopoly of hubs to keep the competition at bay. It transcends every major carrier. They need to start up the chain saw today and begin cutting to remain viable for any type of merger or survival in the near future. 50 to 80 gas guzzlers should be pulled from the mainline fleet with a commensurate percentage of feed from the regionals. This would necessitate shutting down the bottom 20% of flights that are the biggest drain.

The hardest part of doing all this is that mgt understands that they would be giving up monopolistic control and allowing competition to flourish at some of their fortress hubs. They have to weigh that with the spoils and new paradigm that will await the survivors........Low capacity and high revenue.

If they have any hope of getting $$$ in the sale of unencumbered a/c, they better get started now as the market will be flooded in 2009.

:pimp:

So I can't help but ask, just who do you think is going to pick up the tab on this? Guess you and your USAPA buddies better go get your check-books.

I've had an Enormous Concern before, but the doctors said it could be treated. (not cured, though) As far as the United deal goes with USAir, I think that is the stupidest thing ever, and tilton just wants a pay out, and Parker the power. It is so obvious. Good luck with that.

It's to be expected the lawyers would lie about a chance to change it. They'll make tons of money. The sad thing is the East pilots as a whole are too stupid to see it. As far as the UAL pilots talking trash about US Airways, well isn't that the pot calling the kettle black. AWA was the only airline interested in US and US now is the only airline interested in United. United though is not on the verge of liquadation like US was.

How much debt does United have BTW? I have a tingly feeling that is why Continental didn't want to play around with you guys. Kelhner would normally want his hands all over your fleet, but for some reason he decided to pull out of the deal. What a hairy situation.

What UAL pilot on this board has talked trash about US Airways? There has been plenty of trash about the US Airways East folks, but not you're airline as a whole. USAPA more specifically. Settle down.

No way. USAPA will be consigned to the trash heap.

A UAL/LCC SLI will use the Nicolau award as the LCC baseline.
