MEC Blastmail:

The CAL MEC would like to address the rumors concerning new hire classes for the rest of the year and speculation regarding the potential for furloughs occurring this fall. First addressing new hire classes, we have been advised by Flight Operations that there are currently two classes remaining for the calendar year, one scheduled for April and the second for May, with four new hires in each. Further, all pilots who have been accepted but do not have a class date have been told that they will be offered a future class date when hiring resumes.

As for furloughs, we have been told that management is not anticipating or in favor of furloughing pilots at this time or in the future. The current plan calls for a strategic approach involving reevaluating aircraft utilization along with other revenue generation and cost savings steps to actively avoid the need for furloughs. The Union strongly advises against initiating long term, extreme measures to what may be a short term economic trough. Inevitably furloughs create a host of issues that, in the long term, may be more problematic than the issues they initially are designed to correct.

The funny thing is that mgt has not mentioned furlough. Its the friggin average line guy going around talking about furlough. The "rumor" has come from the line, not mgt. The pilots are doing mgt's job. Lowering expectations themselves.

Anyone taking a look at the 73 EWR pool display would know well that the company is still not staffed. Not one day above coverage.

All interviewing has stopped until further notice. Not just a seasonal thing like last year. CN in pilot recruiting and JS in Flight Standards and Training have said all interviewing will resume at a date to be determined.

The pointy end of a ship is called a "Bow". That`s where a shot is aimed if a warning is deemed necessary.

Yep. I don't know whata shot across the "bough" means but I suspect it means that Continental is gonna be someone else's ****** in the near future.

If you're a pilot, it's time to start practicing. I'll even give some assistance:

Use "would you like to Super-Size?" not "wanna super?" and "Would you like fries with that?" not "wansa fries?"

Y'all should be well on your way to counter qualifications. If you're really good, Mickey D's is hiring for their corporate fleet.

Are you signing up? Apparently, we need a pimp.

According to the blast mail, "As for furloughs, we have been told that management is not anticipating or in favor of furloughing pilots at this time or in the future. The current plan calls for a strategic approach involving reevaluating aircraft utilization along with other revenue generation and cost savings steps to actively avoid the need for furloughs."

Maybe reading comprehension isn't everyones strong point. I see this statement as an anti-furlough statement. As an aside, reference this press release: Record loads, revenues are up. Not saying this can't change, but remember section 6 (compensation) negotiations are under way.
