This is what ALPA and all the other unions shouldve thought about doing for the last 7 years instead of taking out full page ads for CrewPass in USAToday. Would show some real power instead of impotence.

I know, illegal work action. But this just shows what a sad state both labor and particularly organized labor is in both this country and particularly this industry.

I doubt it's illegal if they're independent but I wish them all the success in the world nevertheless.

Remember when the Transport Workers Union in NYC threw down right before Christmas in 2005? That was an illegal strike but an effective one.
 
The problem is, truck drivers are blue collar labor and they are blue collar people and live that way.

Airline Pilots are blue collar labor but for the most part think they are a white collar INDIVIDUAL.

Planes and trucks all have parking brakes...
 
Kindof like the McCain voting repulican pilots on here that are squeaking about the Dem's wanting to "raise" taxes by allowing the upper level Bush tax breaks to expire......95% of Airline Pilots do NOT earn a high enough wage to be effected by any tax roll back proposed by either Democratic candidate. But, 100% of pilots WILL be effected in a most negative way by a McCain administration. If you think McCains views on Labor are stomach churning, check out his views on Cabotage and foreign ownership of US Flag carriers.

This man is scary. If you think that fuel is a threat to our careers....go ahead and vote for McCain and see what the real threat is.....
 
Amazing what the threat of concrete blocks hanging off bridges at night about 8-9 feet off the ground can do to a truck driver willingness to join the strike.

Cars go under them while trucks get a windshield full of concrete.

I used to be amazed that anyone with a true grasp of reality would vote to have taxes imposed on them...then I read this and wonder how many more people can actually be fooled into thinking the same.

To get me to agree you would have to show me one government that has ever,ever taxed their people into prosperity. Can you name one?

Not about taxing into prosperity. We either have to tax more and spend what we do now, or keep the tax breaks and stop spending like teenagers who stole their dad's credit card.

We need to run the budget like 95% of us probably run our household finances. If you can't afford it, don't buy it.

i meant on airline labor's part being an illegal strike when put up against the RLA.

NOT true....Both Clinton and Obama support the Democratic budget proposal which would raise taxes on people making more than $31,850 ($63,700 for couples)......All of us except first year regional FO's would see our taxes rise.....

There is no way that the Gov't could run the airlines like they ran ATC during the PATCO strike. . . . the results would be tragiocomic . . . . !

Those were symbolic votes on non-binding resolutions, Joe. The only point of their votes was to protest Bush's proposed budget that cut program after program while continuing the absurd tax cuts for the rich. Neither Obama's nor Clinton's actual tax planes include tax increases for anyone in the middle class. Tax increases would start at somewhere between the $250k-$288k mark.

If ALPA was capable of prosecuting an effective Suspension of Service the opinion of the courts wouldn't matter. They would do what the Money told them to do, and the Money would just want the pain to stop. Of course, if that degree of leadership and unity were in place it's highly unlikely that we'd be in the fix we currently find ourselves in.

It's not a matter of the capability of ALPA, it's a matter of the willingness of the membership, and it just isn't there.
 
Given the sad state of its leadership I'd have to agree with you.
Again, it's not about the leadership, it's about the followership. The best leadership in the world couldn't convince this membership to undertake what you're suggesting. Just won't happen.

All that ALPA, APA, etc would have to do (to avoid a job action) is hire someone under the table to do the dirty work for them.

Kind of like in politics when its not Mccain, Obama or Clinton themselves diging up dirt on they're opponents but the PAC's acting as the assassin on they're behalf so they can then play dumb and act like they have no clue that it was about to happen.

What does leadership say about Aloha and Champion Air....chrip....chrip....chrip....ah oh I understand it's followership again. Yes I would have to agree the followership were following the wrong leaders, again!
 
What exactly would you like them to say?

I'd like them to say "don't worry guys we'll get you interviews at other carriers"...but we both know that won't happen! They're too busy wasting money thinking up cleaver slogans like"Taking it(in the )Back!" One in which I might add is very appropriate here!
 
ALPA doesn't hire pilots. Airlines do. ALPA can recommend preferential hiring, and I'm sure most MECs will do that, but they can't "get" interviews for anyone if management isn't cooperative.

This report did not say it but the truckers were threating a slow down on 1-5 in Washington State, All it takes are four in a row slowing it up 20 mph and the whole freeway would be at a standstill in 30 min. Maybe we could learn something from these guys.

It's been so long since ALPA had any real leadership I can definitely see why you would believe that. If you look back at its history you'll see that the current paralysis brought on by an inability to act on anything other than naked self-interest is a relatively new development. Sometime in the last 20 years or so we lost sight of the fact that our stewardship of the profession was a vital part of looking out for #1. I put the responsibility for not keeping that fact first and foremost in the membership's minds directly on the shoulders of leadership.

Is Prater the guy to lead the charge? Of course not, but there is simply zero chance that this organization will turn itself around as a bunch of loosely confederated spheres of interest. It's going to take strong leadership at the National level, and if we had that I'm certain that we could all take tomorrow off and go fishing.

Do you know something the rest of us don't? What you are describing is attempted homicide at best. If you have information on a possible crime I suggest you call the FBI or local law enforcement.

If you are posting made up BS on FI to support some agenda (which isn't clear) I suggest you stop.
