Your assumption that DAL mngt is not interested does not seem so true. Anderson and Bastian cancelled weekend events. Do you know the reason? I think I do... Not trying to flame here. That is not my intent. I am just saying that this is the 'DEADLINE'. The bennies are on the table. Do we want them or not. The merge is gonna happen. It could be great for both sides.

Maybe, just maybe, it might have something to do with the grounding of our entire MD88 fleet this week and trying to get our airline running on time again. Just another possibility.

I read this morning that AA and DAL were back to normal and running full schds.

What is kind of interesting to note is that NWA has come out and said that they want to merge with DAL. I believe that this entitles CAL to buy back the golden share for $100. This was something NWA wanted to avoid.

I am sure that in the wake of the SWA incident, DAL and AMR are negotiating with the FAA this weekend.
I am sure that there is going to be egg on someones face for this.
There may be a deadline, but it probably has nothing to do with NWA.
Investors know when to hold em. And this is the time to either sell at a loss or wait for the economy. There may be a merger, but it probably is not what our two numbers guys are working on this weekend. The whole re inspection of the MD-88 AD caused huge issues across the country for everyone.

Right........

Even if this deal does happen, I would be very surprised if the price of stock went to its predicted market cap. 25-30 a share...no way.
Either way the hedge funds will be selling at a loss.

The Feds DO NOT work weekends...

Tell that to the last faa inspector coming across the pond last month doing a line check!

Coming across the pond? Ha -- I call that "returning from a vacation".

Those clowns do "nonrev" checkrides all the time.

:D

All our airplanes are up and running, that's true. However, many passengers were stranded. Load factors are high and crews may not be in place. The company asked and the union has allowed temporary contractual relief through the 31st to get everything running smoothly again.

I'm not sure if it would be wise for the CEO and CFO to be flying around the world on publicity flights when passengers may still be stranded and employees are working overtime this weekend.

I see this overture from NWA management as just another trial baloon, similar to NWALPA's last week.

We'll see what happens.

Do you really think this is the way crooks like DS and RA work? Anything said or leaked to the press was coordinated by these same crooks posturing for something. It may just be a distraction for something else, but things aren't leaked by accident. I wouldn't trust RA with blind faith. As much as pilots think they're board room cronies, RA will let them get just close enough so he can neuter them. Don't be fooled, he isn't your friend.

Let's all get our Merger Checklist out (it's on the back of the QRH):

1) Oil sustained above 100/bbl .......... Checked
2) Cancel flights due to FAA inspections .......... Checked
3) US economy begin recession .......... Checked
4) Ground, park and or sell airplanes .......... Checked
5) Carrot Top headline in Vegas .......... Checked

I think #5 guarantees we are all pretty much fooked.

Schwanker, thanks for the good advice. Believe me, we don't trust anyone. There is always a possibilty that management could attempt to force a merger. I don't think it will happen, but if it does we'll evaluate the situation and we remain prepared to react accordingly.

So far this is just another news leak/trial baloon, so if there is no other news, let's enjoy the weekend.

Oh, I forgot the last one:

6) Let the pilots think they have a say .......... Checked
