When you guys get around to getting a new contract done, are you going to address this as far as scope goes? Looks like a Delta jet, with Delta gas, with essentially a brand x pilot. I guess technically, a brand new kid flying for Mesa, making 18K a year can say he's a Delta pilot. Afterall, it does say Delta on the side of the Dash 8.

737 Pylt has been uring me to apply at Mesa for some time now. Just think, I could be a Delta pilot without even needing an ATP.

I assume the RJs are ComAir...so can DAL furlough a ComAir guy or park a ComAir jet? I'll admit that I'm completely ignorant of what ComAir's relationship is with Delta these days.

I believe that as a wholly pwnd subsidiary, DAL can do whatever they want with Comair, including parking all the 50-seaters. Or the entire "Comair fleet" for that matter.

Tanker clown...not picking a fight, but what airline do you ultimately want to work for? SWA, DAL, FDX, or UPS...or someone else?

This is a serious question because you seem to either have ADD or are completely retarded because you flip flop more than a politician when it comes to airlines.....are you working a staff job in the Air Farce Right now?

Is class still showing for Monday? I have heard some stuff flying about, but noting concrete nor official.
I think it is more people that are scared than anything.

Did some checking and it looks like it will be more RJ cuts than anything.
Looks like classes will continue. Well until they change that. As of today they were still calling people for interviews.

A/C deliveries still coming and classes still going from what I heard today at pilot hiring. It seems to me that the reductions are mostly at the regional level. But who knows what else will be announced. Some of this may also be posturing to put pressure on a merger, but thats just my guess.

I think that they may just announce that they are going to go ahead with the merger with out pilot support. (In light of the recent rise in oil.)

How much money is Delta losing per day?

And, for how long can it do this before the money runs out?

It really doesn't matter how much they lose. They can always go back to BK and hang out a while, not pay creditors, and redo all the contracts that they redid a couple of years ago. It's a pretty good deal. As long as DAL doesn't owe you money, you work for DAL, or own DAL stock.

So the answer to your second question...it doesn't really matter when the money runs out.

My question is, how many years of record profits would it take for DAL to pay off all they lost since 2000.

I'll end up at SWA, Fed Ex, or UPS. Delta is my back up if they aren't hiring when I retire.

Unfortunately you are probably right and Anderson must have a ton of pressure from the lenders right now to do something to get the price of the stock back up. I'm bettin on a lot of the RJ's to be parked also. It's goin be a late working weekend in ATL.

Tanker Clown,

My question stems from a few years ago when I believe Delta was losing $1 million per day (???), while trying to avoid bankruptcy.

I haven't heard any numbers or formulas lately, and was wondering if the current numbers are less/similar/more than last time.

Hopefully all are hiring when you separate. Looks stagnant for the foreseeable future for all but DAL but, as you know, things change fast.

True. I'm sure the majors will hire till they furlough again. Looks like SWA, Fed Ex, and UPS tend to avoid that lack of foresight.

Yep, Ok management=better foresight=(relatively speaking) happier pilots. Novel concept, wish other airlines could subscribe to this theory!

You rag on DL all day long but don't even have a clue about our operation. There was not a single correct statement in what you just wrote.

Additionally, there is no "flow up" from any Delta Connection carrier as JoeMerchant implied, only preferential interviewing.

I have heard that Anderson is not a fan of 50 seat RJ's... I hope this comes to fruition with this plan. There are just way too many of them around widgetland.

Did you think there were to many of them when you were upgrading on it or holding a schedule on it to build your PIC time? Or were there just enough?

I hope that we are still coming. I'd like to at least get a number! It'd stink to have given up my old seniority number and not have at least recall rights where I was going... you know, that old chesnutt.

???

Who cares?...look at that avatar!!!!!!

Way too many. There were just enough around the time I got hired and then the fleet doubled. I benefited from it, of course. I knew the fleet was growing at the expense of my future job prospects...things worked out, though.

.....there were just enough for him.....and things worked out for him....ahhh the irony....now he is a real mainline pilot and screw those who aren't mainline pilots.....

You're gonna have a tough time with that English Proficient rating, aren't you?

I said I felt there were just about the right amount of CRJ's in the NWA fleet around the time I got hired, which was 70 or so.

Much more than that and they were serving as a replacement to larger aircraft as opposed to an augment to the fleet.

Comprende, Senor?

....so up to 70 they were OK...but more than that they were "replacement".....OK whatever you want to rationalize.....

Either they are replacements or they aren't.....At one time the mainline's did ALL of their own flying....but then the mainline pilots sold off part of that flying for their own benefit....

You are an ALPA true believer aren't you......that ALPA koolaid is really strong in Memphis....You, Saturn, PCL128, and Rez.....

Screw it, I'm going to grow a Prater mustache and take it back.

No use arguing with a career replacement.

My guess is this was my career before you soloed......Were you a "career replacement" when you were a "PeanuckleCRJ" pilot....

I'm not a "career replacement"....I am protecting MY career......

Heyas ACL,

We're hearing the same chatter on our side of the fence. Some NWA bigwigs are apparently going to be with Anderson when he announces his plans.

Don't need a TP Alert to know that bumpy skies are ahead...

You got hired in 1970...Senor(isn't that a razor? or am I thinking sensor?) Before I get bashed...I actually knew what you meant...in both cases...maybe...need a tilde in there somewhere, senior.

I am sure that Baghdad Bob er, General Lee will say that the changes are an order for 500 777s. They will replace all rj flying and all current Dal pilots will be wb capts and some wb capts have not even been hired yet. Two year upgrades to wb capt, the best career expectations of any airline ever.

Maybe they will get this SLI thing done this weekend so that we can get something from it.
Just talked to a few people from the Kremlin and that is the most likely scenario. Guess we will know next week. Not that this merger is a surprise to anyone. Now they have a reason, and there really is no way that the DOJ can turn it down in this current economic environment.
I would venture to guess that we may get the money, but we would have to have something tentatively nailed out for SLI before DOJ approval.
Even though we could not choose the time nor the place, we can make it a lot easier or harder depending on our stance.
What do you think, Monday at 9:30 sound good for the announcement? :)

Sounds good to me, lets just get it done!

Heyas ACL,

Agreed. Here's to hoping somethng equally fair (or unfair, I suppose) to both sides is hammered out, and we can weather this thing.

I'll say Monday, close of the market. BTW, what's the pot? Free lunch? I'll take mine at Interstate BBQ in MEM, but a 3 piece at Popeye's in ATL will also work.
