Just wondering if United is still doing alot of hiring? Also wondering if anyone in recent classes could post what aircraft and bases have been avalable? Could anyone tell me what the junior base are?

Thanks alot

I'll be back at TK in mid April (coming off of mil leave). UAL currently has a couple of classes per month; size somewhere in the teens. Aircraft are A320/737. I think that Airbus is more likely. It seems like there are a good mix of bases - LAX, SFO, DEN, ORD, DCA. If you don't get the base that you want, you can try to trade while in training or you can put in a bid for a lateral. You'd likely get a lateral very quickly.
Plans currently call for a couple of classes per month, ending with one class in June. Classes to resume after the summer.
When I talked to a scheduler, he told me that there is talk of cancelling the last two classes - end of May and June. Nothing firm.

That's very general, but accurate enough for FI.

About 300 last year and another this year... classes end in Spring....

classes in Fall 08 based on need....

The February "Flight Plan" says 200 new hires before summer. 41 already in class and 68 more have accepted offers.

I have a class date in mid-April, so I'm starting to think that I'll be stuck at the bottom for a while.
How is long-call vs. short-call reserve proportioned, and how does it work?
Thanks!

Not even close. Unless you alpo geeneuses are counting recallees as newhires. Not that I'd put that past alpo.

ALPO geniuses? "ALPO?" WTF Andy? You realize you're choosing to come back to an ALPA carrier, right?

With all of Andy's anti ALPA rhetoric... I asked him on another thread if he will decline to (re)join... It seems he would not join ALPA, but talking on the message board is one thing... telling the ALPA guys at TK 'no' is another....

we will see...

....so you have to resort to threats now to get people to join.....A good organization doesn't have to threaten people....they would want to join....

nice try... again and again...

Andy's post have been very anti ALPA... yet he is going back to an ALPA carrier... just curious how he'll play this one....

Just cause you hate ALPA Joe... doesn't mean everyone has to...

The junior 747 F/O in SFO is around the 5800 seniority level.
The most junior pilot in all of SEA is a 737 F/O, with a seniority of around 5000.

NO, what I said is that I'd like to see the union decertified and have an inhouse union. alpo's gotten well past corrupt. You're playing as fast and loose with the facts as prater's team.

rez, drop the subject from this thread. It has nothing to do with it, nor did your post insinuating that united was hiring 300 in 07 and 300 in 08.

Just to clarify, I believe UAL hired 100 right at the end of the year; and they plan on hiring 200-300 this year.

Thanks again for the answers but just a couple more. Is the A320 the junior aircraft for United? Also is LAX or SFO the more junior base?. What base would be the most junior as far as holding 75/76 ?

Thanks

Both the 320 and Guppy are being awarded in the new hire classes. Domiciles have been pretty varied between ORD, IAD, DEN, and LAX. I haven't seen many if any at all awarded in SFO. Sooo...unscientifically I would say the 737 more junior than the 320 and LAX more junior than SFO.
