The Fed just cut the prime rate 1.25% in ten days and mortgage interest rates are still going UP. You think we're on sound financial footing? The rapacious greed of the boomer generation has created not only the on-the-books nightmare of unfunded entitlements, but the much bigger off-the-books lending nightmare of the last 30 years. The housing "crisis" is the tip of the iceberg. There is no "reserve" in the "federal reserve" anymore. 50% chance that before the end of the decade the debt gets monetized, inflation skyrockets (or worse, deflation), dollar dropped as reserve currency, and if you're not well positioned, you're standing in a bread line. 90% before 2015.

You heard it here first. This economy is a house of cards, and has been for the last 20 years (generously). And now the wind is picking up. Choosing between Hussein and McVain is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

Republicans don't typically count on the support of poor folks so I'm guessing he's not too broken up over this.

It's not just our compensation but our whole contract going to baseball style arbitration that scares me ie. work rules, insurance, etc. There is no way this would ever be good for us. I am NOT voting for McCain.

McCain was then commissioned an ensign, and spent two and a half years as a naval aviator in training at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida and Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in Texas,[19] flying A-1 Skyraiders.[20] He earned a reputation as a party man, as he drove a Corvette, dated an exotic dancer named "Marie the Flame of Florida", and, as he would later say, "generally misused my good health and youth."[10] He began as a subpar flier, with limited patience for studying aviation manuals.[21] During a practice run in Texas, his engine quit while landing, and his aircraft crashed into Corpus Christi Bay, though he escaped without major injuries.[21][19] He graduated from flight school in 1960,[22] and became a naval pilot of attack aircraft.
McCain was then stationed on the aircraft carriers USS Intrepid and USS Enterprise,[23] in the Caribbean Sea and in deployments to the Mediterranean Sea.[21] He was on alert duty on Enterprise when it imposed a blockade and quarantine of Cuba during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.[24][22] His aviation skills improved, but he had another close call when he and his plane emerged intact from a collision with power lines, after flying too low over Spain.[21] He was rotated back to shore duty, serving as a flight instructor at Naval Air Station Meridian in Mississippi, where McCain Field was named for his grandfather.[23]
By 1964 he was in a relationship with Carol Shepp, a model originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; they had known each other at Annapolis and she had married and then divorced one of his classmates.[19][23] On July 3, 1965, McCain married Shepp in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[18] McCain adopted her two children Doug and Andy,[25] who were five and three years old at the time;[23] he and Carol then had a daughter named Sidney in September 1966.[26][27][28]
In fall 1965, he had his third close call when a flameout over Norfolk, Virginia led to his ejecting safely, and his plane crashed.[21] McCain grew frustrated with his training role, and requested a combat assignment.[20] In December 1966, McCain was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal, flying A-4 Skyhawks with the VA-46 "Clansmen";[29] his service there began with tours in the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.[30] By this time, McCain's father had risen in the ranks, making rear admiral in 1958 and vice admiral in 1963.[31] In May of 1967, his father was promoted to four-star admiral, and became Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Naval Forces, Europe, stationed in London.[4]

On October 26, 1967, McCain was flying as part of a 20-plane attack against a thermal power plant in central Hanoi, a heavily defended target area that had previously been off-limits to U.S. raids.[41][42] McCain's A-4 Skyhawk was shot down by a Soviet-made SA-2 anti-aircraft missile[42] while pulling up after dropping its bombs.[43] McCain fractured both arms and a leg in being hit and ejecting from his plane.

No wonder he hates pilots. He wasn't any good at it himself

Please you do a disservice to everyone who flew over there. The A-4 was the most shot down airplane the Navy flew, if you flew it you were going in harms way. BTW how many jet carrier landings do you have in a jet? I thought so, anyone who has been there knows if you did it, as many times as my hero John, you must have skills that mark you as an exceptional pilot. Anyone who was there like A4forever care to chaim in and add to this.

Well, I guess you'd all prefer to pay higher taxes then... Good for you. The legislation failed and he could bring it up again if he loses in November. Let's instead focus on the bigger picture - higer vs. lower taxes unless you don't care because you are loaded...

If Bush had run anything remotely resembling a balanced budget for the past 7 years, taxes would have reached unbelievable highs. It's one thing to cut taxes when you get into office, and quite another to have the discipline to make a budget to match it. Well, let's look at what all this wild spending has bought us:
  • A tremendously costly and unnecessary war that is managing to both bankrupt our country AND create more terrorists
  • A health care system that is the joke of the entire industrialized world
  • An energy policy that has helped make $100/bbl oil a reality while paying only lip service to alternative energy and climate crisis
  • A fertile climate for the outsourcing of our jobs overseas, leading to an escalating trade deficit with no end in sight. Maybe if our dollar falls some more in value, we could start exporting US goods again for less than Chinese prices!
  • Absolute abuse of bankruptcy and negotiating laws. Management can easily gut contracts in 1113 proceedings, and delay RLA negotiations indefinitely with absolutely no penalty.
  • Asleep at the wheel for everything leading up to the subprime mortgage crisis. Blame falls to greedy corps, investors, and borrowers, but the administration did nothing. I'm not even sure they saw it coming.
I'm glad you've enjoyed your low taxes so much. After my 40% pay cut, I can't say I even noticed. I did notice all of the above, however. It will take generations of good leadership to undo what the shrub has done in his 8 misguided years. I can't think of a worse candidate than McCain to start the healing.

I am voting for Obama. I think he is the only one that can stand up to McCain. Anyone voting for McCain must either be a future CEO or a Bible Thumper. You must be stupid to vote for a republican when just a week ago they continue to open free trade with countries like Peru and Columbia. There answer to "what about losing American jobs over it" is to train American workers to do other thinks (like work at walmart). We have become the largest supporters of Communism on the planet with our one sided trade with China. Anyone who votes republicans obviously has other agendas like religion, tax incentives that do not affect the average American, etc... Vote American, Vote Obama!

You should talk to the average FedEx and UPS line captain if you think that. Additionally, most of the legacy pilots are looking to get their money back in the next round.

Well see, that's precisely the problem. Not too many of us out here that make that FDX or UPS CA salary. You talk about most legacies getting their money back! I got news for you, with the judges, arbitrators and possible new laws McCain might try to pass, the legacy pilots won't have to worry about benefiting too much from those tax cuts. If he is elected none of us may ever see another decent payraise.

If this isn't true, then why is it that companies have been able to keep pilot groups in mediation forever in the last few years? Why wasn't the APA released? Why have companies been able to start alter-ego companies? Why were companies allowed to rape pilot groups' pensions and salaries for so long? I'll tell you why. Because management along with the politically appointed mediators and judges stand to profit from such moves. Pilots in general belong in that famous middle class group. And in case you haven't noticed, the middle class has been almost driven to extinction during the past few years. But I'll bet your CEO has done great.

Sorry, I'm tired of these anti labor groups. These next couple of years will be some of the most important to this profession. I will vote with my wallet and for the person that gives me the best shot at keeping some money in it.

WRONG! Total foreign ownership is 22% Japan is the largest owner. China owning about 5% of that 22%. Get your facts straight. Oh, but you're not showing any original thought since you're parroting DNC talking points.

Your lack of education on the issues makes you the perfect poster child (there's Che Guevara too) for an Obama supporter.

Your numbers are way off in your effort to draw the spotlight away from the facts. I see you didn't bother to make an attempt to refute anything else I said because you know the American people are correct when they give Bush an approval rating in the 30% range after 8 years of suffering through his disasterous economic and foreign policies.

I will admit that I forgot to include Japan in the mix. China and Japan hold 47% of our national debt. So how do you come up with 5% for China alone? I used round numbers of 50% total...so sue me.

Here is the link for you to verify all of this. You'll have to scroll down about 3/4 of the way, but it's there.

In one of Obama's recent Primary victory speechs, he said, "Am I my brother's keeper? Yes I am!" That goes to the heart of the difference between Republicans and Democrats. You as a Republican are all about the 'I've got mine screw everyone else' mentality. You have no compassion. You have no vision for a better country or a better world. Yet you don't want that coal burning power plant in your backyard, but it's OK to put it in someone else's. You don't give a hoot about the 54 million Americans who have no health insurance because you've got yours even if the cost of your insurance is insane. We as Democrats follow the belief that our country was founded on the principles of compassion and helping others who are less fortunate than ourselves. It also means protecting the planet, and beautifying our surroundings to pass down an even better environment to our children. That would be an anathema to someone like yourself who like a typical GOP robot spouts the Bush/Cheney greed & corruption program while the house is falling down on all sides in front of your face.

You and JetJockey get it.....it's "pick your poison" with either of the two major candidates.

That's rich. So the Dems have the market cornered on compassion and vision? The Reps pimp off the religious and business folks while the Dems pimp off the minorities and environmentalists. Neither has a soul. But hey professional wrestling is real, right?

9/11 did more to hurt this industry than any republican ( Tom Daschel's airline lobbyist wife and Carter's deregulation didn't help either!)

You are right on 9-11. But Deregulation resulted in the phenominal growth we have seen in this industry since then.

At least with deregulation we no longer have the CAB ( Govt) decideing who can fly where or how much to charge. Some people don't realize that competition is a good thing...weeds out the weak...keeps those that are innovative going strong.

Tom Daschel's wife? Gee....I'm not aware of anything she did as a lobbyist. I guess any wife ofn a Republican wouldn't lower herself to making millions for using her government contacts...

...like Tom Delay's wife or daughter.....

This Indeopendent is probably gonna vote for Obama....after voting for Bush...Bush...Clinton...Bush...Reagan....Reagan...
