A capital gains tax increase doesn't affect most people.

No, only those of us who sacrificed the new cars and big houses and invested that money in the economy in order to fund our children's education without making OTHER people pay for it and to fund our own retirement since Obama will almost certainly push for means testing social security.

I think Obama's real agenda is the same income redistribution scheme that the democrats have always had.

2008? Nobody running for president has my vote. McCain or Obama? Either will be just as bad.

PCL,

You need to do a little more homework. In addition to his other tax increases he wants to get rid of payroll social security tax which is capped for '08 at $97,200. So there's ANOTHER tax increase for anybody making over that amount.

That's AT LEAST 3 tax increases that I can think of that will apply to my family.

Gup
I don't need to do any homework, my friend. I'm already well aware of Obama's SS plan, and I support it 100%. Do you honestly think it's fair that you pay a much lower percentage of your income into the SS system than a guy who only makes $40k per year? He's paying 6.2% of his income, you're only paying roughly half that. There shouldn't be a cap on the payroll tax.

It is fair as long as a cap exists on benefits. If I pay more in then the current cap my benefits should correspondingly be higher. I'm not paying more than I used to so I can get the same level of bennies. That doesn't pass the common sense check; pay more for less.

On another note...

I thought this thread was about fat chicks on airliners and instead it has turned into a pissing contest about which politician is "less worse" than the next. They all suck. They're all in it for themselves and if you make money you will ALWAYS pay for those that don't. Nothing new. The amerikan way.

Now back to fat people on airplanes. Much more constructive.

If Obama is elected, our tax money will likely be spent buying extra airplane seats for fat folk.

I'll vote for the candidate who supports armrests as the first line of defense in the War on Tubbies.

Yes, it is fair PCL, considering that there's a cap on the benefit. Why don't you just admit that Barak's plan is nothing but extended income redistribution? Or at least, give me my money now and let me opt out . . . . . the way HE is opt'd out because he's a senator.

It's a safety net. It was never intended to be a big retirement plan. It provides a basic level of retirement for everyone as a safety net to keep people out of poverty in retirement years. You have the same safety net as everyone else.

Barak's just another limo liberal just itching to buy votes with promises of more money. I can't wait to see what the idiots, both democrat and republican are going to do when the economy goes into recession and we've got millions of illegal aliens out of work, collecting welfare, and in the hospital having their 5th anchor baby. I guess Barak will want to dig farther into my pockets for that one. I trust Barak about as far as I do McCain, which ain't far.

PCL. So I have a good job. I'm liable for over 3 TIMES the Social security tax that loser pay but when "we" retire we get the same money? Yeah that's fair.

You're a loser - my friend.

Gup

Skin to skin with a stranger like this is not just uncomfortable, it is unhealthy. The policy at CAL, as far as I can tell, is that if the armrest won't go down and there is no other seat available, you are asked to get off the airplane. I saw this happen once. The FA was discrete, but firm about it, and the person who had to get off didn't complain, but seemed to take it in stride as part of being too large.

Gup, I am afraid by the time you retire you will get even less than that person that didnt pay as much into the program if anything at all. It wont be to much longer before SS is in total crisis mode because the politicians talked about it for too long without doing anything to permanitly fix the problem. They will eventually start to penalize people that have been sucsessful in life, have planned well and have money saved for retirement! They "WILL" reduce and/or eliminate your SS benefits! Its just a matter of time.

What the FAA should do is require the airlines the have 1-2 seats ( maybe half of one row) on every airplane that are like first class seats that are reserved for the COS passenger since they are wider. You know the airlines wouldnt do it themselves and would need to be forced into it. Dont let anyone sit there that isnt a COS and block it off untill at least the main cabin door is closed.

You can also make it to where the armrests dont move up and are in the down position all the time. If said person is too large then at least there rolls would be deflected skywards! ;)

Absolutely not.

You need a double-wide, you pay for a double-wide. Hell, Southwest will even let you pay for a triple-wide if you need it! (I've thought about it just to get a row to myself...)

Or they can go buy a ticket on a Midwest 717, where all seating is only 4 across. (And the service is terrific.)

You know the airlines wouldnt do it themselves and would need to be forced into it.
OK... so, who's going to pay for the loss of revenue? Why should you and I subsidize it?

Should the government require car manufacturers to give them a bigger car at the same price if they can't fit in a Corolla, and charge us all more?

Ummm... it's not going to be the illegal alien out of work.

THEY are the ones who are going to have a job, since they are the cheapest labor and companies will still hire whoever is cheapest, regardless of their work status.

It will be the low-income American who refuses to work for half the minimum wage who is out of work and drawing unemployment.

Not that it matters, as unemployment rates skyrocketing STILL means more taxes for you and me, regardless of which section is out of work.

That's why I was *HOPING* for a candidate who would be strong on kicking out our illegal aliens, but nooooo... we don't get anyone who even remotely supports keeping Americans in America and returning those who are not.

The fact that this fat woman wouldn't buy an additional seat disgust me as much as her eating habits do. I say if you're over 300 lbs, you must buy a second seat.

Don't like the terms? Lose weight!

No need for a weight limit. If you exceed the boundaries of your seat -- top or bottom -- you should buy a second one.

That goes for the huge guys whose shoulders penetrate my seat space, too.

Let's just charge by the pound!

I say look at the fare they paid let whoever paid more for the ticket have more of the room.

You know, if this person doesn't want to have someone next to them, they could buy two seats just as easy as the other person. I had two customer incidents recently. One had brought on a rather large musical instrument and another had brought on an expensive painting. Both these idiots insisted on belting them into a seat somewhere in the cabin, nevermind they didn't pay for the extra seat, they felt the single fare entitled them to stowage of whatever crap they wanted to bring on! The customer with the painting went as far as insisting we carry it in the cockpit for him!! Now, I understand customer service for the most part, but I also understand what the fares are these days. Anybody who wants a little extra space these days should be ready to pay for it. OK, fat guy sticks into your seat: Bad. What about when this battle gets down to the armrest, or part of the armrest, or overhead space?

FKN A. I had the same problem a last month on a DH flight.

So the TSA has the time to give a pilot a full-body secondary screening but they don't have the balls or the time to prevent this stuff from getting through their scanners?

Cello could be used as a weapon. Painting should've been FedExd. No, you can't put your $ht in my office.

Hey! don't categorize us ex football players who continue to workout with broad shoulders with the fat ba$tards in this world! Big difference!

My point is that if you're in my seat, I don't care if it's because you're built like Fat Albert or because you're a weight lifter. I don't want any part of you in my damn seat, and that includes your shoulders!

Are there more fat people, or more people who want something for nothing? For instance, who get's the armrest?

I say we settle these debates with the fare amount!!

Hey, let's not get carried away here.

It's one thing if Jumbo eats at Burger King everyday and can't shoe horn his back 40 into the 16 inch coach couch, but making me buy an extra seat for my two tickets to the gun show; well that is something else all together.:pimp:
