Just curious how senior CVG is these days? Could a new-hire get based out of CVG quickly and what would be the most JR aircraft? Thanks in avance.

It is relatively senior......Just opened a 73N domicile there so that will make some more movement on the 88.
Right now the projections show new hires from 9/07 getting CVG on the M88.

IT will be the first base closed after the NW Merger.

Actually MEM would be first. CVG has the highest yields of any DL base thanks to zero LCC competition and large contracts with companies like Procter and Gamble, and some analysts think some routes would be retained, to large cities like LAX, LAS, SFO, DCA, and NYC. Would a crew base remain? I don't know. The analyst stated most RJs or RJ routes in the Midwest would be shipped to DTW if it happened. I guess Mesaba, Pinnacle, and Comair could fight it out for DTW.

This is of course if anything actually happens...

Actually you have no idea. While you may think you know it all, you are just an FO who will get further shuffled down the seniority list in a merger.

Reguardless of what routes get cut in a merger, the likes of SWA and Air Tran will come in and fill the capacity and do what Delta or Northwest could never do in those markets: Make a profit.

Why have SWA or AT yet to enter the CVG market?

I'm sure it's coming. The point is, have all the consolidation you want. I'm sure SWA and Air Tran are chomping at the bit to see the legacies pull back. Especially in markets that they don't already serve. Then they'll fill the voids. SWA has always enjoyed being a growth airline. I assume they are praying that NWA aquires DAL (or whatever version of who's pitching and who's catching you like) and then the MSP hub get's closed.

I bet SWA is biding thier time watching MSP and to some lesser extent MEM and CVG.

There was yet another article on cincinnati.com yesterday about CVG base and potential mergers.

CVG fares stay highest
BY ALEXANDER COOLIDGE |

At a average $576 per roundtrip, airline tickets in and out of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport were once again the nation’s most expensive and fastest growing in the third quarter of 2007, a new government report said.
Local air fares were more than $100 more than the nation’s No. 2 costliest airport in Anchorage, Alaska, which averaged $467 per ticket. Airfares at CVG increased 12.6 percent from the same quarter in 2006. Nationally, average airfares dipped 0.8 percent for the quarter to $328, according to a survey released today by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
Local passengers departing the Hebron airport have long decried sky-high airplane tickets that are blamed on its status as a hub for Delta Air Lines.

That status might be in jeopardy as the Atlanta-based carrier mulls a potential merger with either Northwest or United Airlines – a move experts say could ultimately lead to the dismantling of the local hub. Such a move would likely drastically cut local service but also attract low-cost competition to the region, as well as result in the loss of hundreds, if not thousands, of jobs.

Delta officials have declined to discuss the status of merger negotiations. The airline has consistently defended its pricing, noting it needs local passengers to cover the higher expense of operating the airline’s second-largest hub.

Delta and its affiliates, including Erlanger-based Comair, account for more than 80 percent of service here – including nonstop flights to more than 120 cities in North America and Europe.

Average fares at nearby airports, although they offer considerably less service and fewer direct flights, were lower, the new report showed. The averages for the third quarter were:

* Dayton – $333.

* Columbus – $277.

* Louisville – $315.

* Indianapolis – $306.

One or more low-cost carriers serve the four airports.

CVG is a lot like PIT, not a big O&D town. When USAir packed up and left PIT, did SWA or Airtran turn it into their next big hub? They could have, the new terminal could have supported a new hub. But no---the city is not a huge tourist magnet. How many lovebirds do you know that say "hey honey, let's get NASTY in Cinncinasty this weekend..." We at Delta use it primarily as a connecting hub.

No one ever said it would be the next MDW. I can only guess that it would be more like a Columbus or heaven forbid, LBB. SWA and Air Tran can do some damage with just a couple of gates. We can only assume that the LCC's welcome consolidation to open up new markets for them.

OK back to the original point! Delta CVG
Do any DELTA Pilots know how much CVG will grow with the new 73N? Also what is the reserve schedules like out of CVG(ie days off, 6-7 on 2-3 off....). Also is there long and short call or at least res. that is commutable? Thanks.:)

CVG BLOWS!!! I was based there for 3 years, 3 years I can never get back. hahaha
