IT will be the first base closed after the NW Merger.
Actually MEM would be first. CVG has the highest yields of any DL base thanks to zero LCC competition and large contracts with companies like Procter and Gamble, and some analysts think some routes would be retained, to large cities like LAX, LAS, SFO, DCA, and NYC. Would a crew base remain? I don't know. The analyst stated most RJs or RJ routes in the Midwest would be shipped to DTW if it happened. I guess Mesaba, Pinnacle, and Comair could fight it out for DTW.
This is of course if anything actually happens...
Bye Bye--General Lee
Reguardless of what routes get cut in a merger, the likes of SWA and Air Tran will come in and fill the capacity and do what Delta or Northwest could never do in those markets: Make a profit.
Why have SWA or AT yet to enter the CVG market?
I agree I would rather do a 4 leg commute then live anywhere near CVGCVG BLOWS!!! I was based there for 3 years, 3 years I can never get back. hahaha
