Just got a call from my buddy flying today. He said ASA has CNX'd over 170 flights already today. I don't know how accurate that was, but OURASA is showing 100% completion factor (figures). Reason for the CNX's? Delta is preserving all De-ice fluid for their own airplanes. I'd like to see the spin on how this works out....

Kind of reminds me of the CVG melt down a few years ago.

Glad we know where we rank with Delta. Oh, but "they own every seat in our airplanes".

That is because Delta sucks. You and I know how we are treated when it comes to them and skypest. ASA is the step child to both, but that is ok. I am off for the next 2 months. Delta can do their merger and jerk us around all they want. I am sitting here just laughing at the skypest threads and Vtech that moron.
Yes Vtech, you wouldn't have the flight pay you have if it wasn't for any type of union. People fighting, blood, sweat, tears to get what they need to survive. You skypest morons just leach off people that fight for their rights, better pay and quality of life.
Jerry Atkins would do anything to keep a union off his property. hmm What a winner that guy is, you little puppets just dangling from his little wires.
Skypest can kiss my a$$

Does it bother you that Jerry Atkins is spelled wrong? NO $HIT MORON, THAT IS WHY I SPELLED IT LIKE THAT. MUST BE ANOTHER SKYPEST LOSER.

More wise words from the pilot in the RIGHT seat.

Don't you think it's a little early in the day to be hitting the bottle?

How many snow storms does ATL get anyway? One every 3 years? This last Summer was great for us, thanks to very few storms, period. (of course we got a drought) Many pax have been re-routed thru CVG, but the ones that could not had to go through ATL.
Have fun out there.

Bye Bye--General Lee

General, what are your thoughts on Delta's decision to not deice any RJs and save the fluid for mainline?

Well, I wasn't there (I was on this board), so I don't know if what you say is true. I don't know what the procedures are for ASA vs Delta. But, if there was only a set amount, and the mainline flights would have more econmic impact (more pax get stranded in the airport for a cnx flight etc), then I would say use the fluid for as many mainline flights as possible.

I didn't think this was worth a new thread, but I noticed a subtle change on OurASA. Under Flight Status Inquiry, the Flow tab has a few new options. One is 'Time Zone', and the other is 'Partner', which of course only has DL as an option. Just was curious.

Very true, but if the RJ's can't leave ATL to go to the small stations and bring in the connecting pax, the international flights will be missing some passengers. So really, it's all intertwined. Delta is still going to have stranded pax and lost revenue. Seems like a shortsighted decision to me.

I'm just curious how this will spin? Will these CNX's be ASA's fault? How will it go down? Will the media villify ASA again for poor service? Can't hold ASA accountable if Delta doesn't give us the resources to do our jobs.

That part won't make the AJC headline. Here's what will:

"Atlantic Southeast Airlines strands thousands of passengers as flights are cancelled due to a shortage of deice fluid for their airplanes"!

That's EXACTLY what I mean. That's recoculous.
A better headline would be....."DELTA DIDN'T PLAN FOR THE ADVERSE WEATHER CORRECTLY, STRANDED MILLIONS OF PASSENGERS IN ATL."

Not when you depart ATL after 5pm which is when all this occurred. 95% of those flights after 6pm are overnights. Lots of intl flights.

It's real simple. Cancel a flight with 200 pax or cancel a flight with 50 pax. Now multiply that by 100 flights or so.

1. It was happening this morning too.

2. If the planes don't make it to the overnight, the morning flight out is also cancelled. Either way, "valuable" delta customers are being inconvenienced.

A whopping 60% of Delta code is flown by DCI. That leads me to believe there's almost as many RJs as mainline airplanes. What's the difference between canceling one 76 with 200 people or 4 RJs with 200 people? Oh now I get it... more mainline superiority complex! You're more valuable just because you're mainline!

recoculous?? :)

ATL is not designed for serious winter ops and it never will be. It's just not cost-effective. That means these rare storms will come and go, wreak havoc on schedules for a few days (and piss off John Pennekamp, but what doesnt?). Delta and ATL will not spend millions on deice trucks, plows, deice fluid stockpiles, install deicing pads and hire/maintain the proper staffing and logistics for all that just to use them once every couple years.

ATL deicing is primarily used if the RON aircraft get some frost on them overnight. Then it works decently. It's not designed for -FZRASNPL.

If there's almost as many RJs as mainline airplanes (as you say), then why do you compare one 767 to 4 RJs? Shouldnt it be an even comparison? 4 767s vs 4 RJs. Alright, that's 1000 pax vs 200. Now does it make sense to you why they cancel RJ flights first?

IF you have a plan that would work better, then by all means let's hear it and debate it!!

Because due to the stage lengths the 767s fly (~4 hours) as compared to the short flights the RJs fly (~1 hour), there's 4 RJs in ATL at any given time for every 1 767.

And this morning?

What about this morning?

Sure more RJ flights were canceled because the RON aircraft couldn't get out last night. Again, you'd rather have the mainline aircraft flying than an RJ.

Again do you have a plan that would have worked better? Independence Air tried to fly with all RJs. Whether you like it or not, the mainline DL planes are the reason ASA exists. Not the other way around.

More wise words from the pilot in the RIGHT seat.
Right seat? I see your parents didn't have any kids that lived. Read the profile home slice. The answer is there. Wait I see you can't read, that would be Captain. Left seat.
I have been at ASA longer then 2 years like skypest ugrades. I do know more about Jerry Atkins (yes it's spelled incorrectly), than you know. Want his cell phone number. I do have it.
Man, where do we get some of these sphinkters?

You have Jerry's cell number? Prove it! I have 3 hours to burn before I head back to work.

West Coast thing (recoculous), when something is so ridiculous, it heads to the next level.....Kind of like flying a 90 seat RJ for 50 seat pay, that's recoculous.

Dude, everything is our fault. You should know this by now...The whole thing is too deflect blame. Remember, the majority of our Pres. came from Delta...they KNOW how to deflect blame and we have been witnessing it for years.....No SURPRISE!!
