Thanks jack@sses! BTW, if we did this to keep with international standards lets see some of you fat @sses pass the ICAO medical!
There is no "ICAO" medical. ICAO is the organization that negotiates treaties between different countries. So that a medical issued in England is recognized by Germany....a medical issued in the USA is recognized by Russia....a medical issued in Cuba is recognized in Canada, and so on. All that is negotiated by the ICAO
Get it, now? Sheesh...now I know why the vote was 390-nada in the House.
believe me not all SWA pilots supported this.......
I promised myself to keep out of this, but I have to say one thing.
This is for, well you know who you are.
Just remember, there isn't one late 50 something that wouldn't exchange even 10 years of your youth and be happy to even sit in the right seat again.
"Age 65 Praised by SWA Pilots "
Not by 50% of us.
It wasn't effective because the rule, put in place because of safety reasons, was not opposed of the grounds of safety. Over the next few years union contracts will adjust to the change. A FO at a major airline already makes pretty good money. It was a hard sell to convince legislators that they deserved to make more as a reason to keep the now antiquated age 60 rule in place. That arugument was given little consideration.I have little doubt why there wasn't an effective campaign to combat this change.

Uhhhh....I believe the last vote tally was 55%-45%...and (as usual) there was a low voter turnout.
So does vision, hearing, cognitive skills, coordination, stamina, mental acuity and adaptability. All suffer greatly beyond 60.
haven't you heard- 65 is the new 50. the job just isn't that hard.
Even if that's true the current crop in the Congress, Senate our President don't really care about some pilot's upgrade time. Bad timing for people trying to use safety rules for career progression. Even so I just don't think it's going to be all that bad. Some will come out a little better and some will come out a little worse. It's just not going to be that bad.The rule wasn't originally put in place for safety reasons, that was just how they sold it. It was originally put in place for labor reasons, specifically at AA.
I guess what we should all learn from this is, don't be careless with your finances.
Thanks a lot SWA dudes!!!!!!! You guys are so cocky and now you will wait longer to upgrade. Feel good about that?
ALPA made it a done deal. Still cocky however, we have the most experienced Pilots in the world. Now back to your B55 & C172...this is a major airline forum.
