I promised myself to keep out of this, but I have to say one thing.

This is for, well you know who you are.

Just remember, there isn't one late 50 something that wouldn't exchange even 10 years of your youth and be happy to even sit in the right seat again.

Then let them sit in the right seat again. I guarantee that most of them made it to the left seat a hell of a lot sooner than any of us will, and with double the pay that we will recieve.

I guess what we should all learn from this is, don't be careless with your finances.

Uhhhh....I believe the last vote tally was 55%-45%...and (as usual) there was a low voter turnout.

I have little doubt why there wasn't an effective campaign to combat this change.

It wasn't effective because the rule, put in place because of safety reasons, was not opposed of the grounds of safety. Over the next few years union contracts will adjust to the change. A FO at a major airline already makes pretty good money. It was a hard sell to convince legislators that they deserved to make more as a reason to keep the now antiquated age 60 rule in place. That arugument was given little consideration.

Yo Dudes! The voter turnout on Age 60 was about 60%. Of that 60% that voted only 58% voted to reform the age.

This is classic SWA. The silent majority is silent because the train rolles steadily down the tracks without so much as a speedbump. Life is good. Hell, this doesn't affect "ME" because we are a growth airline.

Fast forward 3 years. 5 new jets next year and no retirements. How's that for not affecting your growth?

Whatever seat/spot/seniority you're at get used to it. You're gonna feel like a legacy pilot by spring.

Experience counts...f*ck you. So does vision, hearing, cognitive skills, coordination, stamina, mental acuity and adaptability. All suffer greatly beyond 60. Get a f*cking life. You want 35 years of 6 legs a day? Fly till you die losers.

You're right, the participation was unforgivably low on the FO side.

I know when the vote was going on, I had 2 Captains (both 4 digit guys BTW) tell me they expected low FO voting "since probationary FOs can't vote anyway, and we have so many new guys."

Whether they were genuinely under that impression, or there was a misinformation campaign going on, who knows. Those FO's who didn't vote for whatever reason have to live with it.

Age 65 is unfair, age discrimination. I'm writing my congressman now demanding that USA take the leadership in working until you die by allowing pilots to work to 70. Hell, think of the nearly 50 years of piloting experience that will be kept in the cockpit.

Even if that's true the current crop in the Congress, Senate our President don't really care about some pilot's upgrade time. Bad timing for people trying to use safety rules for career progression. Even so I just don't think it's going to be all that bad. Some will come out a little better and some will come out a little worse. It's just not going to be that bad.

I Was Amazed At How Many Fo's Here That Did Vote For A Change In The Law. But I Believe It Would Not Have Changed Or Been Brought Up To A Vote In The Congress So Fast, Had It Not Been For Alpa's Aburpt 180 In Deciding To Support The Change.I ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD IDEA THAT AT SIXTY THEY MOVED BACK TO THE RIGHT SEAT
