I just talked to the PD today. The other tentative Jan dates are the 16th and the 30th. Also, I was told there is 1 class scheduled for Feb and 2 classes for Mar (don't know the dates). They won't make calls for any of the classes until just before 30 days prior.

One potential cause for concern is that according to the PD, the age 65 ruling is supposed to happen on Dec 12th and it takes effect immediately. According to them, that would obviously cause them to reevaluate/change their hiring plans. Can anyone confirm or deny the Dec 12th date? I would've thought this would be all over the forum since it affects everyone. I'm soooooo ready to get out of this pool, but age 65 (if it's true) plus the slowdown in growth could be VERY bad for all of us poolies.
 
Hmm I never heard anything about a Dec 12th decision. Most people were thinking it'd be passed next year sometime, if not after the election even.

Does anyone know what is the exact number of people that are in the pool. I've heard as low as 300 to over 400. Just wondering if anyone has heard the exact count? Thanks.

Got the call. I was meaning to ask for info for the other classes, but then she sidetracked me talking 'bout other stuff and I forgot. Sorry..., but will remember if I talk to them again!
 
I just heard again today that 250 would be a max number of pilots hired in '08 if the economy picks back up. Same Capt. also said not to expect interviews in '08. I still don't like the sound of this.

On a good note, congrats to the poolies with class dates.
 
I talked to the PD this morning. I found out that I am in the tenth class and sitting about 200 in the poll including the Jan 9th class. So I am looking at late summer early fall. I how this helps. Happy Holidays
 
Must've been a lot of non-FI users they called, as it doesn't look like this Jan 9 class drained too far down our list!

I estimate only about a quarter to a third of the pool is on this list. That's judging by how many have gotten crossed off with the previous classes.

Pool Party - Pack up those fruity drinks, bring your suntan lotion and don't forget your bikini-clad girlfriends and/or wives. Certified Scuba Instructor - Conducting Scuba lessons in the deep end of the pool. Gotta' beat treading water.

ballgag and others--enjoy the sausage convention at your "pool party." watch out for Tanker Clown if he crashes the gig; I hear he's a not afraid to take the dirt road.

I talked to MR in the people department today. No news or firm schedule beyond the Jan 9th class. If anyone in the deep end of the pool needs a job to tide them over until your class date send me a private message.

12:24 AM EST, December 13th.........

Age 65 looks to be a done deal. All it needs is Bush's autograph. Anyone with thoughts on how this will affect those of us in the pool?

My understanding was the there was very little hiring that was being done to cover retirements. If so, maybe this won't have that big of an effect.

I don't know the answer. I'm wondering why the calls for the 2nd class in Jan haven't gone out yet.

It's gonna hurt guys. This is a sh1t sandwich for anyone on the bottom half of the list or waiting to start class. Consider it your first taste of SWAPA in action. And I'm usually a glass half full type.
 
My buddy told me that he thinks they'll honor the January 9th class but probably won't have a class until April or May after that one. Take it for what it's worth.

Does anyone know how much in advance you have to let SWA know that you will retire. I'm curious, the guys who said they would retire in January, are they now committed to retirement? Or can a guy just come out of the blue in say Feb and say that's it I'm out. Just wondering how they plan classes in reguards to retirements.
 
Not to be negative but adding 5-10 (net) new aircraft and little or no retirements for 5 years means only 50-100 new hires this year. I sure hope gas prices drop and the markert turns around.

Don't you think that some (although not many) will still retire? Not every Capt has 3 ex-wives...at least I hope they don't. Some will go away due to medical. Maybe 20 total in a year out of say 200 planned retirements.

We are starting to see inflation (due to energy)
All signs point to a recession

I'm no fan of Chicken Little, but facts are facts. Just be happy you are at a company with some foresight. You could be at United where they are hiring while looking for to merge/be aquired. Or you could be at Delta riding the crew bus with jke406 (where he will no doubtedly be staring at your package).
