It ain't Collins and it is backwards from anything else.

Try Professor MCDU for the basics and welcome to the world of lateral & vertical revisions.

FWIW it's a Pegasus vs Rockwell system....

I thought that the Airbus FMS was one of the easiest that I have used.

I agree it is easy to build a flight plan, but try changing runways at the last minute or dealing with the lockups. At least the Pegasus versions have been free of lockups so far.

It you want slick, try the Honeywell setup in the Gulfstream 450/550. You can build/modify a flight plan by point and click on the nav display. Only time you need to type is for the performance. Oh yeah, it does that too for the takeoff. Just put in the altimeter, winds & temp like the landing perf on the bus, then finish the W&B section and give it a takeoff runway. The speeds, flex and flaps magically appear on the PFD. I was spoiled!

I had no issues with the MCDU. I came over from the CRJ, and had the basics of the 'bus down within a few days of training.

When I got on line, I did as much programming as I could. Most captains were happy to let me do all of the work. I felt comfortable with it very quickly. Never used any supplimental manuals. If you you want one though, I have heard the Avsoft one is pretty good.
