Southwest Airlines Announces New Products
Wednesday November 7, 1:07 pm ET Airline Announces New Fare Products and Rapid Rewards 'A-List'

DALLAS, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Need the 8 a.m. to Chicago for a business meeting? Need a great fare for a "girls weekend" to New Orleans? No matter where the business of life takes you, the best way to go is Southwest Airlines. Today, the airline provided an advance peek at its new products and web site features, including new displays, the new "Business Select" fare product, and special offers for the most frequent travelers in the Rapid Rewards frequent flyer program.

In recent months we've announced plans to change how we board our aircraft and the look and feel of our gate areas systemwide -- all to increase Customer productivity and comfort," said Gary Kelly, Southwest Airlines' Chief Executive Officer. "Today, we are announcing additional product changes that transition Southwest from a one-size-fits-all airline to the airline that fits your life. We are offering our Customers exciting improvements to their overall Southwest experience and saving them what they value most -- whether it's money, time, or both."
Southwest Airlines introduced "Business Select" at the Company's headquarters today. It's a new fare that guarantees that the "Business Select" Customer will be among the first to board the aircraft. "Business Select" holders also receive extra Rapid Rewards credit for the flight, and they even get a cocktail on the house!
"We know that our true road warriors want to make traveling on Southwest Airlines as quick and easy as possible, and providing the choice to be among the first to board is key," said Kevin Krone, Southwest Airlines' Vice President of Marketing, Sales, and Distribution. "Southwest is still the low fare leader, and this new product allows Customers the ability to customize their travel and get rewarded for it."
Today, Southwest also debuted the new look of its fare display on the website. Instead of a large display with numerous fare categories, the airline has streamlined the process by bundling its fares into three major fare columns: "Business Select," "Business," and "Wanna Get Away," making it easier for Customers to choose the fare they want.
Additionally, Southwest Airlines unveiled enhancements to its award-winning Rapid Rewards frequent flyer program. Beginning tomorrow, Rapid Rewards Members will be rewarded for their frequent flight activity by jumping to our "A-List." Rapid Rewards Members who have flown 32 one-way flights or 16 roundtrips in 12 months will join our "A-List" where they will be automatically checked in for their flight in advance of departure and will most likely receive an "A" boarding pass.

If you honestly thought they were going to announce some merger or buyout with Alaska, you were only setting yourself up for disappointment.

News....

The news here is that Gen Lee has no room to criticize a company that knows how to make money every quarter of every year since they were started.

Sounds like jealousy to me.... How's that pension plan working out for you, champ?

-You see, the concept is hard for this guy to understand, but successful companies don't have to give their executives "bankruptcy-proof" pensions right before they screw tens of thousands of employees and hundreds of thousands of stockholders!

When has there EVER been a build up to a "HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT" that has ever panned out.

Normally its simply something pathetic like new service to South Bend or That you will now get 3 cubes of ice with you Pepsi vs the 2 they used to give you.

Interesting. Like when we were the biggest Crown Royal distributor in the United States. Lets see.......Company buys premium ticket, businessman uses ticket, businessman gets free drink, double Points, quicker free tickets, and "A" group.

Wise move I think. That's what I like about us, we're always tinking. Like T.O. says, "I loves me some me."

Sorry... I just thought Pepsi had better flow with the post...I fly for a Coke airline as well!

Talk about jealousy. You seem to have it. How are our pensions? Well, I was paid quite a bit to make up for any short fall and have filled my 401Ks for the last two and upcoming year while having cash to boot, and even our retired pilots were almost made whole, along with the PBGC. Instead of you actually understanding the facts, you tend to skirt the truths and try to attack me personally, which is fine with me. I can take it, and dish it back. I don't want to and never have wanted to fly for Southwest. I continually say I think they have a well run airline, along with great pay and nice stews. I just would NOT want to fly their schedules, routes, or multiple leg days with 25 minute turns, all in one type aircraft for the rest of my life. That's it.

So, I posted this press release about new boarding procedures, and you attack me and my long gone pension? Niiiice. Looks like you are the dork here, and we all know it. Stay cool Jmoney.....?

Thats nice to say but it is not true. Now go do your homework and let me know what you find out.

How 'bout..........we've made money since Elvis was alive, even thru 9/11 which most airlines declared bankruptcy and raped and pillaged the vendors and employees. A time in which most major airlines lost more than they could ever concievably make for the next 50 years, we continued like the little train that could. Profiting every single quarter since the middle '70's. Is that better Mr. MC.

Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back there skippy. Besides my Dad can beat up your Dad.

Well, about $88,000 went into my 401K for 2006 and 2007 (the max allowed), and another $44,000 will go into my 2008 allottment from the pension dump money. The rest of the actual cash went into other investments, including home improvement. The great part is that this year and next year I will still get the 11% owed to me by Delta each month (9% DC and 2% matching for the 401k), which is kinda like a "bonus." You see, they still have to pay that amount, and since my 401Ks are FULL for this year and next year, I get the 11% in the last check of each month. Also, my wife makes more money than I do, so we are doing just fine.

Folks if an airline decides to merge with another, PILOTS will be the last to know! The merger will be something out of the blue and totally unexpected. It is so funny how folks get on here and say they heard from so and so who is a check airman that A is going to buy B......NONSENSE!

USMC said, "...Do you homework." I did his homework for him. Good CRM right? I'm not bragging, I'm just stating the facts. There is a fine line between confidence and cockyness, but I dont see any problem with stating facts and being proud of my sucessful airline. Tough times could come, and I know we'll be prepared for them.

Also, my wife makes more money than I do, so we are doing just fine.

Yeah, but who is she sleeping with????

"I just sit at home and the checks roll in - All it takes is a few minutes a day, a few newpaper ads and you too could be making 10000-27000 extra a month!!! Call today......only 4 payments of 299.00"

I recently found out it was the Mayor of Lubbock. I can't believe it! Dam those people, and every pilot that flies in there 13 times a day on a corndog looking guppy!

So, have your dreams of flying into Juneau and Ketchican been dashed? Ah, Midway to St Louis on a -300 isn't THAT bad.........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Dam

You are inferring that we should make a "dam" out those people? Or are you just not very smart....? Corndog-looking guppies make a lot more green-looking money than pretty much anyone else has with airplanes.

You may notice that I identify myself most accurately in my signature as a "bastard." Yep, a true "bastard" I am, and as such I do many bastard- like things.

This is the root of why I get on your butt about Southwest. It just fits with my bastard nature...

It does seem pretty goofy to single out SWA as an object of ridicule. There are many things in this industry to ridicule, but the most consistently successful airline ever appears to be a very odd choice....

-Unless, of course, you too are a bastard-in which case it would make perfect sense.

Hey, I was avoiding being censored. Some words on here are censored, and I thought DAMN was one of them. I do that with plenty of words, and I am soooooooo glad you are there to try to find them. Anyway, I never have said Southwest was a bad company, I just said I would NEVER want to work there. That is my opinion, and it drives guys like you crazy. I don't really care. I just don't want to do their type of flying, while flying one type of plane the rest of my life. No thanks. And I don't want to fly to LBB. Is that sooooo wrong? To you it is. Whatever putz.

Man, you are a friggin tool. You post something on SWA - which has nothing to do with pathetic DAL, and obviously your aim is to cause trouble. What is it...9 posts into your thread until Lubbock came out of your cakehole? Dude, you are the quintesential d**chebag.

Again, I'll repeat the same thing I did about a month ago to you. NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE is impressed with your flying a 767. No one gives a crap, no one cares about your ILS's into Amsterdam, and no passenger whatsoever cared if they were on a 737, a 787, or a F-16 as long as it got them to where they were going with good customer service, good safety, and on time. DAL is so pathetic in customer service it might as well not even be mentioned in the same paragragh with SWA. SWA treats their employees 10 fold better than the fodder at DAL. And the compensation and QOL SWA affords to its employees vs. DAL - well it's not even a no-brainer on who the winner is here.

OK clown - you fly a 767 for DAL. Who in the F cares. SWA is and will be head and shoulders above DAL in QOL, pay, and employee/consumer customer service for many years to come.

I can't believe someone married your sorry a$$. If my significant other saw me bragging on flightinfo about my 401K, I'd get a swift kick in the jimmy while being called a pathetic loser - which would be rightly so. And to say your wife makes more than you - again, no one cares dude.
