An informal poll on an our in house message board shows 60% for 40% against with 377 participating. The message board is usually only used by those that seem to care about whats going on (about a 1/3 of our pilot group) our apathy is ridiculously high.

I have been doing my own polling for a couple of months now and it does not look good. There are too many newbies at Skywest who believe every word spoken by management/SAPA. Soon they will learn.

Please remember that if you don't vote at all, under the system that is in place, your vote is counted as a "no".

The system is slanted in favor of business unless the "yes" voters really get out there and VOTE, not just "hope".

This is why the vote ended up being "no" at Colgan.

In the 99 ALPA vote is was unbelievably close. ALPA (or some other union choice) received over 49% of the vote and lacked passage by only 6 votes.

The 04 UPA effort was considerably weaker getting only 478 of the required 723 votes.

With the things that have happened at SkyWest since the last vote, I am not going to be surprised with passage this time. But I'm not there any more and may not have an accurate feel of the pulse.

Just watch, if it doesn't pass, "pilot apathy" will be the biggest buzz phrase out there. I, for one, voted....by not calling. Just because someone doesn't call, doesn't mean they don't care or didn't vote.

Just watch, if it doesn't pass, "pilot apathy" will be the biggest buzz phrase out there. I, for one, voted....by not calling. Just because someone doesn't call, doesn't mean they don't care or didn't vote.

If the system was reversed and not calling automatically was a "yes" vote, this thing would pass in a heartbeat. The apathy vote WILL have an impact, just as it would if the system were the other way around.

2-write in any other individual or organization


there is no option to vote NO. that is why our management is ecouraging people NOT to call. the biggest vote getter wins, and will be our rep if they get total votes (ALPA and write-ins) of 50.1%

You're arguing with the wrong guy on this. I've done a lot of organizing work, including with the Skywest pilot group. You simply don't know what you're talking about. If you call the number and choose the write-in option, you can "write-in" a NO vote and the NMB will count it as a vote against representation. This happened during the Colgan vote. One pilot called in and "wrote-in" NO. It was counted as a NO vote and didn't go towards the tally for representation. For something as important as this, you should at least pick up the phone and put a vote on the record, even a NO vote, rather than sitting around on your ass.

So what's the easiest way to vote "NO"


Don't call at all

or

Call and go through the drill of entering a VIN then entering a PIN then punching some more numbers and answering some questions and then saying "NO"

And if you call and screw it up, maybe it turns into a "Representation" vote.

They don't need to do that.

You're just hoping people will call to vote "no" and screw it up and turn it into an accidental "YES" vote.
