Hi all, Just wondering what the application/interview process is like at Northwest. Just completed the online application and recieved an email stating that they had recieved the app and would be in touch via email after reviewing it. Anyone know how long this takes? What happens next? What is the interview like? Any help would be appreciated and/or anything anybody wants to add would be helpful. Thanks in advance....

Hi!

I've been waiting about 6 weeks. They are calling and interviewing-just have to wait. Calling very highly qualed guys now-captains only with lots of time, like you, probably.

Hi!

I was Auburn U. ROTC, then UPT-H-Grey Hats, 86-02. I was AF (there were 13 of us and a bunch of Danish guys in our class).

I went FWQ to Vance in '90, didn't fly for 10 years. I went to TSA, was furloughed, and then the last 5+ at USA Jet.

C U!

PS-One of the AF guys from my class works here in Base Ops-trying to get a job as a Tiltroter instructor.

I have heard there is a point based matrix to select candidates, I dont think the internal recc is factored in until after seleceted....i.e interview.

Just what I heard from NWA pilot that lives near me.

Hi Guys,

I have done the questionaire and waiting for the real application, how long usually before the application is sent as a link?

Cliff, you were a couple of months ahead of me. we had lots of danish guys in our class also. I was green hat. Army though. good luck to ya.

Hi!

Good luck to you, also.

The application was emailed, and it probably went into your spam or junk folder, so be sure and check that-mine was in there.

My Northwest app was sent to me in about two days after the initial. I sent it back, but have'nt heard from them so far. Three weeks.

Ok, just got the email from NWA with the application attached. Will be filling it out today. Anyone out there that knows how long it generally takes to hear anything after that app is returned? Is the next step an interview? Thanks

I must of won the lottery....Because this never happens to me....But they called me and set up an interview this month.

times quals and stats too if you dont mind...

took about 3 weeks from the application email until the call....

well....okay...here are the basics 4000TT 3000Multi 2800 Turbine 1300 PIC and ONLY 50 hours 121 PIC(when I applied)....which is amazing they called at all...however I was a MD88 ground school instructor...not sure if that was a factor because of the likelyhood of the 9 for newhires. CL65 and CE501 type ratings

thanks

I have close to 3000tt, 2000 multi 1100 pic and 150 121 PIC, but when i filled out the application I had 0 pic as I filled it out the day i got my CL65 type. I think this is going to hurt me when they see I have a type but no time in it. I am kind of regretting that decision right now. Especially since you can't update it.

I dont know how they decide to call people for an interview but i got called. I have 3000+tt, 2200Multi, 1100pic, 250 tpic with no connections at NWA. So your guess is as good as mine. But your quals are almost exactly like mine.

It seems to me that they are calling those of low to medium time. The 10,000 hour RJ guys aren't getting called.

Ya think maybe NWA is shopping for pilots that will stick around a while and not defect to Delta, UPS, or FDX first opportunity? You think?

I have about 8000 and most people who were in my interview group had about that. Maybe they are mixing it up a little to get a wider range of applicants.

Hi!

NWA has some kind of formula where you get a bunch of points for either:
How many hours per year of flying that you have done, or
How many hours per year of flying that you have done since you got your student license or PPL.

The guys who have flown the most hours consistently get the most points.

In the above situation, it doesn't matter if your TT is high or low, just how much flying per year.

Too bad for me (I didn't fly for 10 years, as I tried to get a job at a bad time).

Well that makes sense then. I timed out last year in Nov with 994 hours and this year i have flown 600+ i think. Would have been more but i went through upgrade early this year.

Well that sucks....

There have been times....out of my hands where training transitions at the airline I have been working at has been held up for months and at one for almost a year....while getting paid of course.

Heard from some pilots that hiring is going to be more than expected .....

What did the call consist of? Any questions or just an interview invite?

The Call was pretty much just a verify information call. They asked if you failed any check rides, stage checks, etc. Crashed any planes, and how many more hours you have flown since applying as well as confirming where you work and what your position is there. Very straight forward and when they are done they offer you an interview date based on your schedule. I hope this helps good luck.

Superpilot,

Let me know if you hear anything about interview/sim preps. I'm looking too. I live in MSP and imagine there should be something close.

Others,

If you had a sponsor on your app, how long after they get contacted by HR until the phone call for an interview?

TIA (thanks in advance)

Varies. They're still working apps in order of raw score. Some younger guys with the quals will score higher due to the formulas. It took a month for them to e-mail me with the form for the guy I'm sponsoring. Some are getting them with a few days.

They called me for an interview about a month and a half after i put in the app. No internal recs. 3700TT 450 TPIC....

Occam,

Is that time from app until the sponsor gets the form OR time from getting the form emailed to you 'til interview?

Thanks,
R

It's the completed-app-til-I-get-the-email-as-the-sponsor time.

It varies. If they run the "sort" on Friday...and you score a "26" on the matrix, you'll get called (or your sponsor contacted) before a guy who completes is app on the next Monday...but scores a "28".

As with most things in life: It ain't always who you are, what you are, or even how good you are. Sometimes it's just when you are.

The number of apps is keeping the HR crews busy. They are wading through the "stack", and work all of them in sequence. I you have an internal rec it won't necessarily mean you app will be worked sooner....it just means that when it is worked, you'll move ahead of the others in your batch with the same raw score on the matrix.
