Not meaning to flame here, but Airways is hiring in to the right seat of the 190, is that correct? What is the progression going to be like there? I would imagine very slow. Look at the 190 FO rates, not very good.

The Midatlantic recalls have been in the bus and 73, not sure about the poolies from the West. Thanks for all of your insightful responses.

FlyNick, good luck getting on. I'm not sure of the way it works these days, but I think you can have a little hope of going to a Grp 2 plane.

The seniority issue between east and west will play out for a while. And, since nearly 50% of the attrition is coming from the FO ranks out East, even if you get the 190 as a new hire you'll be able to bid out pretty quick.

Seat lock is a year in the 190 (I think) and starting pay is the same across the board at $40K plus benefits. Also, if you're a 190 line holder, I've heard the lines are pretty good QOL wise.

Progression should be extremely fast. I believe over the next 9 years we retire something like 3500 pilots. That is out of a total of 4800 or so.

One small detail you are forgetting.
This is not really USairways. Maybe the name. But not the CEO, the headquarters are all Americawest.

Phoenix, contrary to popular belief makes quite a bit of money. Always did, always will.

As SWA continues to raise fares it becomes more profitable everyday, due to the high level of competition from them.

BTW, all west poolies went to the 190.

Anyways, flame on boys, flame on....

Is the starting pay rate for all equipment the same and if so what is it currently? Airline Pilot Central shows different rates for 190 and other aircraft. Where are the 190's based? And lastly how much is health insurance for pilot+family? Thanks for the info!

Looks like per the transition agreement the 190 first year pay is $41.22/hr. Perhaps you make another 5K to 7K per year compared to the bus or 737. However, I'm waiting for a class date and I'm looking at this as a long term move. Don't know what aircraft I'll get but the family and I will eat mac and cheese for a few years in order to make the move.

I'm intimately aware of all the problems at Airways but I believe it will eventually get worked out. Until age 60 gets changed and nothing drastic occurs I expect to move speedily up the seniority list.

Bottom line for me is I've been at Mesa for over 10 years and I don't think I can take much more of it. I'm extremely happy Airways hired me and can't wait to move on.
