Finally got an interview! If anyone could suggest the best place place to do the sim prep and get some good gauoooge that would be very helpful. I could use some cheap sedatives as well. Thanks in advance.

I talked to my sponsor yesterday and he gave me a 'get ready' kind of speech....so I'd really like to know this too. What is the name and number of the BEST sim prep available? Money is NOT a concern....I want the job.

I think the best prep would be to have someone tie you up and continually beat the crap out of you. That is how it feels over here. Good luck!:smash:

My sponsor went in and did the CPO visit and gave me the same "you should get a call any day" speech before I got the call too......................................

Don't go to a CAL interview without doing a sim prep. I wouldn't of made it through without the prep I got in IAH. The sim is the same sim you practiced in. I was pretty nervous, so having already done it, made ALL the difference. As far as a face to face prep, it's up to you. I did interviews for my regional airline, so I felt pretty comfortable. I just had answers already made up for questions I KNEW they'd ask. There's gouge out there for the technical stuff, but it was pretty easy. VDP stuff and FAR's. No biggie....best of luck!! You'll work your tail off, but I have confidence that CAL will be the place to be in a few years when we get this contract stuff sorted out.

For good interview prep try Aaron at Emerald Coast Consulting or Kathy at A Write Resume. I believe they both still have banner ads here on FI.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll try those websites. Who offers the sim prep in IAH? I've heard that there's one in Dallas but IAH would be much better for me. Thanks again.

crewpilottraining. Used them in IAH, extremely helpful. Only issue is that when I did it, the maddog sim was in use, believe that sim has been removed. I'm not sure if they have access to the 737 sims for prep, but I'd give them a call.

I did my panel prep with Albie at Emerald Coast Consulting...outstanding prep - very professional act!!

Sounds like Crew Pilot Training is the sim prep of choice. Is a panel interview prep worth the money? I have a month to study so I should be able to prepare pretty well on my own. But if there is some secret hand shake that you learn in the interview prep I'll shell out the cash.

For the guy that asked... It took a little over a year and a lot of help from a good friend at CAL to get an interview.

I did no panel prep, but it depends on your comfort level. Nothing especially tricky in the interview, but make sure you feel good about answering situational questions. If you can honestly say that you've got good answers and can answer them clearly without rambling, you're good to go. Otherwise, do some prep. No secret handshake, but you do want to be comfortable when you sit down across the table.

I interviewed yesterday. No sim prep, but I was typed in the 737 back in July through Crew Pilot Training. The sim was in the morning and the interview was in the afternoon. I could have flown the sim a lot better and I could have flown it a lot worse.

The interview went very well in that they told me that I would be contacted in 2 days by my sponsor. The panel lasted about 20 minutes and there were no tech, TMAAT, or WWYD questions.

PM me if you want details.

Hopefully, my loony bin status at Delta will be overturned. The Delta review board meets next Tuesday. Anyone have suggestions if given the choice between CAL, DAL, or UAL?

C-17, you're killing me bro!! Are you seriously asking these clowns here on FI on some quality advice about your future career?? (And I'm one of the clowns!! )

In my unbiased opinion I'm not a fan of DAL's act. Their airplanes are disgusting (i.e. you find more of their so-called sunchips in the rails of their seats than you do in the FA's baskets during snacky time). The quality of their customer service is average at best. Their contract is slightly above average but I think it'll certainly get better in the years to come. On the flipside I've got some good friends that fly for DAL in my ANG unit and they're awesome dudes. I think with all the hiring the pilot group will be a good one as the old blood retires and DAL continues to hire good quality folks (I know they like mil folks which is awesome).

CAL (who I obviously work for) is pretty good. Slightly above average. The airplanes are much cleaner and I think the product the customer gets is certainly better than DAL. Customer service is actually pretty good. The contract is certainly below average - no doubt about that. No health insurace for the 1st 6 mo's is haenious - I'll be the first to admit. The pay is marginal. Same good qualities as DAL though - the new contract is right around the corner and hopefully it'll be pretty darn solid. And the pilot group on average contains a lot of good, young folks.

UAL - no comment...don't do much traveling with them. I do have a few good dudes from my ANG unit that fly with them and that's about the extent of my knowledge.

My 1st choice - FDX. 2nd would be UPS. Most folks like SWA as well but that wouldn't be my cup of tea (I'd like to do the int'l gig which fortunately CAL gives you a lot of that option). I do know that FDX and SWA are very military friendly (and so far CAL has not personally given me any issues so that's a plus).

Good luck bud! If you do go with DAL tell Shocker howdy for me (great dude I flew F-15's with that just got hired).

CAL gives you a sheet with the entire profile on it and you get to study it for about 30 minutes - you don't need a prep. It's just basic instrument flying and the safety pilot will set up everything and do all the checklists for you!

How long between app and interview??

Almost 2 years for me from app to interview. I had 11 internal recs, 4000 hrs 121 PIC, and a Check Airman. It might be easier now, but I was in the CP's office a few weeks back and they had thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands.....and.......ALOT of apps. It takes someone to walk your stuff in....nothing less.

Apr 07 app Oct 07 interview. Got the official email today w/ a training date of 6 Nov. I could have gone 30 Oct, but I wanted to be home to watch my kids dress up for Halloween.

What? Do you own a time machine? How did you already get the job if you interviewed in October (it's now only September on my calendar)? Congrats though if you did and hook me up with some stock tips if you do have a time machine please!

I agree with Scrapdog except a word of caution about FDX/UPS. The pay is awesome at FDX/UPS, but you better like the redeye flying. To quote some of the guys in my reserve unit when I ask them about FDX or UPS, the answer I get a lot is "the pay is good". Yes, there is a lot more day flying now, but you won't be doing that right off the bat. I did a lot of night flying in the previous life, but flying over Utah at 3 AM after a 12 hour day sit in Seattle is tough enough once a month. Doing it several times a month, with kids and a wife at home, changing your circadian rhythm back and forth can really shorten your life. FDX/UPS pay is certainly better, but I think you will enjoy the flying at CAL at least a lot more than the FDX/UPS gig, especially initially.

Another point of view.....good luck either way.

Congrats.

See you down there.
I start Oct 9th.

Higher Power or Crew Pilot Training for the sim prep? Both are roughly the same price. I know some of you Allstars out there don't need a prep but I haven't seen round dials in over 7 years and I wasn't that good then.

Cast your vote. Thanks.

Fedex/UPS pay is great, but more importantly is their stability. Ya, there's the night flying, but what's the difference between 3am over Kansas or 3am over 50N40W?? If you don't know where that is....it's over the Atlantic. Anyhow, just my thoughts.

Called CAL today to see if an earlier training date was available and they put me in the 30 Oct new hire class. DAL and UAL won't have me in training until November. I should have training class offers from those 2 by the time I get back from this trip. I'm on the road right now to lovely PunJabi-Stan and won't be back in the states until next week. My DAL loony bin review board is on Tuesday and I am somewhat confident I will be able to stay (not 100% confident of course). UAL's review board was today so they might contact me (or try to) tomorrow with the formal thumbs up or down. Nothing set in stone, but I'm leaning towards CAL because the drive is much better to EWR than JFK and I was told yesterday that I would be relatively "senior" in my new hire class and that I would likely have the choice of a 757/757 or the 737 out of EWR. I know the pay sucks and there is no health care for the first 6 months, but the quick upgrade to captain is very enticing. As for UAL...I would still love to work there, but I am in a position to possibly choose between the two and it is a difficult decision, but after some research, the answer is becoming more clear.

Congratulations! I assume that "seniority" in the CAL classes are based on age. Would you be so kind to let us know your age. Thank you.
