Keep in mind they can meet outside of mediation. If the company needs a contract for some deal that is in the works, expect something sooner than later.

Dear AirTran Pilots:


With 87% of the eligible pilots voting the Tentative Agreement has failed by a margin of 61.37% to 38.63%
Where does this leave us? After being informed of these results our mediator Mike Tosi, of the National Mediation Board, told us that our negotiations will be put into recess until after the New Year. That will give us time to elect new leadership and for the new NPA Board of Directors to establish its direction and priorities for negotiations.
The first job of the current NPA Board of Directors is to finish conducting the election for the next NPA president. The nominations for president close next Monday, September 24 at Noon. The ballot will open Wednesday, October 3 and will remain open until October 24.
The presidential election will be followed by a second election to fill three additional Board positions: vice president, domicile representative at large, and captain domicile representative. Nominations for these positions will open on October 1; the ballot will close on November 29.
The position of captain domicile representative was not scheduled to be on the ballot this fall. Unfortunately Capt. Mark Goodin has decided to leave the NPA Board for personal reasons. To ensure an orderly transition, and to maintain a quorum, Mark’s resignation will not become effective until the new Board is in place. In addition, Capt. Brad Sims has decided not to seek reelection as domicile representative at large. We would like to thank both Brad and Mark for their years of service to the pilot group.
This means that over the next 90-days the NPA will be electing four new Board members including a new president. Having just voted down a T/A that took almost three-years to negotiate its important that the pilot group nominate and elect a new leadership team to represent its needs, wants, and desires in a new contract. These elections are critical. Please take the time to listen to the candidates so that you understand their positions.

I am sorry but those 208 people are pathetic. We are not voting for class clown here. This your career. F'in losers...

If those 13% would have voted no, we would have a 75-25 split with more bargaining power.

Pathetic.

The scare tactic the NPA BOD was feeding us was that the mediator wouldn't be available for 6-12 months, eventhough we don't even need him. Kinda like the "vote for TA1 because of this big, bad merger coming." More BS.

If all of those 208 voted YES, then it would have been a 53 / 47 split.

Since I am on first year pay and on RSV I am glad I don't have to take a pay cut. Good work. We called their bluff, now we will see what happens

Hey Lear70, do you think it might be possiable to retain your services in the next round of negotations. I'm not sure when that would be, but you have my vote and backing. I was not too far off your track when you were at Pinchnickle, I was at the Meslaba. You and I know that the scare tactics and threats are loud and large but in the end, the job still needs to get done and those that flinch first loose. My brother I am behind you 100%. I believe that you were a major contributer to a number of these NO voters.......AWESOME!

I will ALWAYS be available to the pilot group, no matter WHERE I'm hanging my hat for work (or maybe even without a hat). I'm not nearly the expert that Seth Rosen is, but I'm likely a little more "personally vested" in results than an outsider would be, and would be happy to lend my skills to whatever the task at hand.

Everyone needs to have an adult frosty beverage tonight and celebrate, then really start thinking of what you DO want in the next T.A. :beer:

The hard part is likely just beginning,,, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the company take a very entrenched position when mediation starts back up in the Spring.

AirTran pilots reject tentative labor deal

CHICAGO, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Pilots at AirTran Airways, a unit of AirTran Holdings (AAI.N: Quote, Profile, Research), have voted to reject a tentative labor agreement reached last month, an airline spokesman said on Friday.
AirTran said the pilots voted 788 to 496 against the contract. AirTran said it is ready to return to the bargaining table with the workers union, the National Pilots Association.

1.-Scope (why cant Airtran pilots fly them with a different pay rate for a 86 seat aircraft?)
2-Insurance
3-Reserve
4-1st year pay

You didn't read the contract!

The pay rate wouldn't have changed for him but his monthly credit on RSV would have been much lower. I'd guess that's what he meant.

Well said xpdriver. Congrats to you guys. Glad you didn't settle for that rediculous TA. Way to stick it to Forklift Joe. Don't trust anything that guy says. Keep up the good work for making this industry better for all of us.
 
just curious, is this the first TA or te second TA that has been voted down? if it is the second,how come your MEC asn't asked the NMB to release so you guys can take some self help action?
 
Interesting your Mediator is Mike Tosi. If I'm not mistaken this is the same individual that was the ALPA F/O Rep for US Airways in PHL. He was such a good union rep I believe also that the COMPANY threw a party for him when he retired (mind you they do squat for any of the other guys retiring) Anyways, just find it interesting. I would imagine this would be his first case, or at least first high profile case.......

That F/O pay needs to parallel the captains pay rate across the board not just first year pay.
 
I have no dog in the fight but I must compliment you guys on your solidarity.

- Vote out your union president
- a fair amount of picket crossers on property
- junior people on property easily manipulated by scare tactics.

All overcome with a fairly substantial no vote.

Nice job guys. I'm impressed and others should be as well.

Thanks, Guppy. It's been a struggle, and there's been casualties, other pilots are currently out as well due to terminations in the last 2 weeks.

My only hope is that my AirTran brethren will continue to push forward with new Leadership and that the next T.A. will be worthy of a CAREER.

First TA we have voted on. In June, they pulled the initial TA off the table because of a near riot by the pilot group in protest. We were ready to burn the NPA headquarters to the ground. That started the recall petition of the Union Pres and VP. NPA Legal blocked the initial recall petition which again caused another uproar from the pilot group. In August we started to vote on a Last Final Offer from the company that our Union BoD didn't endorse. The Union BoD stopped that vote after the mediator called us back into negotiations in August and we got the TA that we just voted down. The problem with this TA was that the substandard TA from May was what the negotiating team had to fix. Other than pay, most people would say our current contract is better to live under.
