If they hadn't declared MINIMUM FUEL at 45 min remaining on landing, that is a problem. Regardless of whatever else may have transpired, in the USA, a declaration of MIN FUEL has weight and there's nothing bad or illegal about being in that condition.

From what I know, all OM manuals state that you must declare an emergency at 45 min fuel remaining. How you can get to 20 minutes of fuel without other factors involved, I don't know. From what I remember at Comair, OM requires a min fuel report at 2000 lbs, declaration of emergency at 1500.

The CRJ burns about 2000 lbs/hr down low at 200 kts, 2500 lbs/hr at 250. So, 20 minutes is 600-800 lbs total. I can guarantee you they had more than that or you would have heard it in their voices. What is the min fuel for a go-around, 900 or so?

No, most manuals do not require the declaration of an emergency at 45 minutes remaining. Novel concept though. And even if that was some kind of universal policy, is that the same 45 miutes clean at cruise like almost every 121 dispatched airplane is planned for, or 45 minutes partially configured at 2K? The second version would be way, way higher than planned IFR reserve. Depending on the plane and assigned speed/configuration it could be double or triple you planned IFR cruise reserve. You ALWAYS land with that much gas? Uh huh.

In any case, you 12 angry men,NTSB law judge wanna be's still think that its possible, just possible, that the crew of that plane knew delays were rampant and padded their time? Or perhaps, God forbid, they made an error in phraseology or misunderstood what the controller was asking and meant 20 minutes til they got to emergancy fuel? Just maybe?

For the CR7 it is minimum fuel at 2500 & emergency fuel at 2000. As for a go-around it is 600 lbs per wing (level flight) so obviously 1200 lbs minimum.

Wasn't there a guy here who admit that during an interview, when he was asked about going around in IMC with only 1500 lbs left in the CRJ, WWYD? He said he'd shut one down during the go around to conserve fuel. Either he's BSing, or he is one stupid guy.

I can only hope he was joking. Either way, if he actually said that stuff during the interview, that's one quick way to not get hired.
