What's the deal with a guy busting the psych eval with the shrink and then getting the job offer?

Does DAL have a interview board that reviews everything and then makes the Final decision?

I personally know two who have busted the psych portion. They didn't fit the personality profile. And they do have a board that reviews all of the people who bust the psych eval. I don't know anything about it, other than they do look at it. Both were awesome guys also, so I'm not sure what the psych eval is seeing in these people.

Simple

This is easy. You would have to be crazy to work for Delta so the shrink is just confirming what he already knows.

If you do good, you get a Delta interview. If not, maybe you can ask for a Song interview.

OK from personal experience I failed the MMPI test. Actually, they said it was invalid, and that this happens alot. So they allowed me to take the 567 question test again before I sat down with the doc. The doc said not to worry too much about the test once it is a valid test.

I now have two class junior to me.

What happens if you fail the psyche is this. DAL convenes a board that will review your entire application jacket. Everything from your app to the psyche eval. They make the determination on whether to overrule the psyche or not. Many times I have seen them stand by it. It is a legal thing. Basically if one guys says that your nuts and you do something 20 years from no, DAL will be liable because they were warned.
FWIW another independent psychologist reviews the original doctor's notes and makes a determination to its validity during the review board. I have not heard of people failing the actual psyche eval (Not MMPI) and getting the job. If they are that is great. It is more or less just a legal hoop to jump through. Even the mechanics have to do this type of thing for a job.

The chair is still there, but he makes you sit on the couch! I didn't even know about it till now....maybe thats why I failed.

I would not beat yourself up over it. I had a few friends that got turned down as well. They were top notch and truly some great people. There was no reason for them to get turned down either.

Thanks for the info. I have heard of one case (ASA pilot) that failed the psyche eval....(NOT MMPI) and got the ruling over turned. The rumors run rampant how he managed this....from getting ALPA involved to daddy's best friend is some senior VP.
Either way it seems kind of $hitty that you can get that far and a quack that's having a bad day or you who have been through days of stress to get to where you are affect your job opportunity with DAL for life.

I did some research on the MMPI-2 and what Delta is looking for. Pilots tend to spike out the 'K' value. Basically, we don't admit to dumb things like: I have stolen something. Or: I get sick once in a while. You are still in interview mode and not answering the questions truthfully. Obviously questions like: I do what my dreams tell me to do or: I hear voices in my head answered as true are disqualifiers. If you just admit to reality you'll pass. Sometimes I get mad or I've had bosses I didn't like are both TRUE! So answer true. Don't game the system and you'll do fine. The doc can tell if you gamed the test because it is inconsistent. My buddy did a practice test with a doc once and he spiked out the 'K' value. He took the docs advice to be honest and is now working for Delta.

I didn't pass the psyche eval either. It seems if Delta wants to use "their" psyche to do a re-evalution for the review board, then that psyche should talk to you in person. This way he can get his on conclusion, rather than a conclusion from notes.

Now I'm still flying Delta passengers with more responsibility as a Captain. That's ok, but not as an F/O with a different ID..

The Psyche eval consists of both. IF you get thru the first day, you are given the conditional job offer pending the psyche eval and medical exam on day two.

The psyche exam was a true/false questionare with around 700 questions at the Delta headquarters. Once completed, the results are given to the psyche on P'tree St, and he sits down to talk to you for about 20 minutes..
