What's the deal with a guy busting the psych eval with the shrink and then getting the job offer?
Does DAL have a interview board that reviews everything and then makes the Final decision?
How many people bust the psych portion of the
interview process?
I personally know two who have busted the psych portion. They didn't fit the personality profile. And they do have a board that reviews all of the people who bust the psych eval. I don't know anything about it, other than they do look at it. Both were awesome guys also, so I'm not sure what the psych eval is seeing in these people.
So did they get the job after the board?
This is easy. You would have to be crazy to work for Delta so the shrink is just confirming what he already knows.
I failed it and had the job offer withdrawn. Must be loco! I have no idea what they were looking at, although I am now doubting my sanity.
then again the original delta shrink blew their own brains out so perhaps the psych eval is a load of bull......
I don't think they have the chair anymore, do they?
Thanks for the info. I have heard of one case (ASA pilot) that failed the psyche eval....(NOT MMPI) and got the ruling over turned. The rumors run rampant how he managed this....from getting ALPA involved to daddy's best friend is some senior VP.What happens if you fail the psyche is this. DAL convenes a board that will review your entire application jacket. Everything from your app to the psyche eval. They make the determination on whether to overrule the psyche or not. Many times I have seen them stand by it. It is a legal thing. Basically if one guys says that your nuts and you do something 20 years from no, DAL will be liable because they were warned.
FWIW another independent psychologist reviews the original doctor's notes and makes a determination to its validity during the review board. I have not heard of people failing the actual psyche eval (Not MMPI) and getting the job. If they are that is great. It is more or less just a legal hoop to jump through. Even the mechanics have to do this type of thing for a job.
This is a highly defensive response to the MMPI-2, resulting in a profile that may underestimate the individual's problems and maladjustment. The applicant was so defensive and evasive in responding to the items that the resulting profile is probably attenuated. His marked defensiveness and tendency to place himself in a favorable light may result from a conscious desire to avoid divulging personal information.
Individuals who are being evaluated for employment may produce such defensive profiles. They attempt to appear highly virtuous, and they typically deny problem situations and personal limitations that are common to most people. Their unwillingness to admit to any shortcomings casts doubt on the utility of their MMPI-2 profile. Because of his defensive test-taking approach, the presence of significant problems that can impede work performance cannot be ruled out.
Here's a link to an actual MMPI-2 test administered to an airline pilot applicant. The name has been changed but the description of this individual are detailed.
Definately worth reading if you're expecting to take an airline imposed evaluation.

Here's a portion of the description.
So just out of curiosity, does the psych eval consist of a written test or do you sit down with a quack...or is it both? Also, if I understand correctly, you only do the psych eval if you do well the first day right?
