Actually, the #1 choice of LCC's. Before they seperated the categories JetBlue was regularly beaten by CAL. I'm not sure if DAL ever beat JetBlue. It isn't hard to beat the other LCC's out there so being the number one LCC is good, but it doesn't mean your the best airline in the US. I liked it better when the category was best domestic service period and didn't seperate the legacies from the LCC's.

Yes, but you guys are getting really nervous obviously. Neeleman was kicked out for some unknown reason, and the executives create a "change of control" clause to save their future butts. Sure, your other employees have one too, but I bet that could all be changed and the executives have better lawyers and will keep theirs. Actually, according to the JD power survey http://www.jdpower.com/corporate/news/releases/pressrelease.aspx?ID=2006102 , JetBlue scored 820/1000, topping all categories. CAL scored 697/1000. Although the survey was seperated into multiple class carriers vs single class carriers, the survey is the same. If they had not broken the survey into two classes, CAL would have finished behind all the LCCs.

The "buyout" provisions were also this week supplemented by a new Loss of Liscense/Disability package that will pay pilots the average of last 12 months pay until mandatory retirement age. Jetblue management continues to address what the pilots desires are, and so far, they've been prudent, cautious and incrementally successful in that respect. Now, as far as buyouts/mergers-- I think Delta would be the last airline to buy us out. Why would they spend 2.5 billion in market share and absorb our 5-7 billion in debt (debt that they just shed) for a mostly domestic carrier with no fleet commonalities? It sure doesn't make sense to me, but heck, I'll take their offer to boost our stock price. Even if it gets that far, the DOT would say "no way Jose" when they look at the route structure that Delta shares with us. If we get bought out, it'll be through an entity outside of aviation; frankly, no one in the airline industry has what it takes to financially or the fortitude to take us on-- look how the Airtran/Midex thing is going, their merger makes the most sense and they still can't "get er done"...

If it costs more money to pay the NYC teamsters to build a new facility at aging JFK than to buy Jetblue and get a new terminal and some 100 seaters, Delta would probably consider it. Instead of getting all worried Blue Bayou, just look at the facts and try to figure out why this is happening. DN, your founder, was pushed out of his job. Why? He disagreed with the board about something. The board then approves a "change of control" provision, which some analysts insist is a precursor to a merger or acquistion. Does that mean it actually will happen? Maybe not. But those two things together have to make you wonder what is going on, something that you don't know about and won't until it happens. That can't tell you, that would be insider information.

As far as someone taking over a competitor, the US attempt at Delta would have left many cities without service (that could happen here, although most JB cities are big enough to retain service), and also dismantled a few hubs. Would any hubs be gone with a JB acquistion by Delta? No. Would there be less jobs? Maybe not. Would there be a little less congestion at the biggest cess pool airport, namely JFK? Yes. That could be attractive to many polititians. Maybe your unions could get together a petition and, wait, nevermind.

Hawaiian would be a small burp during dinner for Delta. That is small potatos. How many planes would that bring over to the Delta side? 30? I have seen more than 30 Delta planes at their MX hanger on some holiday weekends. That acquistion could be done over a golf game. I would think a larger acquistion could be in the works, like Alaska or JB. Hawaiian would be a great side story on page 2. Any merger would have to be strategic and complementary to Delta's current network. Alaska would make sense then, since it would fill out Delta's gap on the west coast. Jetblue would offer a new terminal and a 100 seater.

Didn't Delta pilots have a no furlough clause in their last contract? Delta figured out how to get rid of that, they could probably get your executives to sign off on getting rid of your 12 month pay, as long as they get to keep their's. That is the way executives do it, and they have better lawyers.

The problem with the no furlough clause was the exception. The company saw fit that 9/11 was "War" and that allowed the furloughs.
I would venture to guess that if DAL went after JB it would be a purchase not a merger. Ergo, the ALPA merger and fragmentation clause would not be exercised. Furthermore I would venture to guess that the judge/ arbitrator would state that the Jet Blue contracts are not protected by the railway labor act. Basically, it would be one fine mess.

You need to check your facts. The PANY owns the terminal. EVEN IF jb went the way "of the dodo" as you so intelligently described a bankruptcy filing ... terminal 5 would be most likely be auctioned off to the HIGHEST bidder (in order for the PANY to make the most money).
