I'm coming up on the end of my LOA and planning on staying at Blue also. Just don't think there is much to go back to... Would of bet a million dollars against it 7 years ago at the newhire dinner. Oh well. Good luck to all.

I would assume they sent out about 100-150 letters for the July 23rd class. Therefore, there are about 300-250 remaining. The people who said new hires by October are correct.

I got my letter yesterday and turned down recall. 11/15/99 DOH. Good luck to those who return and good luck to those who move on. Either way, it's nice to finally have some closure.

this may be the wrong place to put this but I will see. Since things are looking like United will soon be hiring, for those of you that are currently there and have experiences there, what is it like? and is it as bad as everybody says...that United will be gone in 5 years or whatever limitation they want to put on it? I really want to get on with United, and I think these years of hiring comming up are my chance. I understand its not what it was, but I just want to make sure I dont step into some quicksand.

I guess this is why I limit myself to this site so limited, as it is amazing that there are many out there that want to get on here but ask questions likes yours......

I would like to learn what is so bad that you hear about UAL other than the same old gossip out there for so long......

I guess it is all realative...to me I am happy doing a job that I love and flying equipment that I am happy with and going to destinations I want to layover at.

I speak with several of my good friends that work in the military to other majors...And, I guess things are not as great as they once were here at UAL but we are definately a carrier that will hopefully raise the bar if operating in the black occurs......Times are challenging for everyone and it always will be...it is never been a secret that UAL wants to merge, so I am not sure what exactly you care to know....If you think this is quicksand then you might want to rethink your career goals....I have heard that from guys that have worked here 20 years and just think WTF....another guy saying the sky is falling...

Just wondering if anybody has found out if the poolies from 2000 have any chance of get on at United when the hiring starts. I am trying to get ahold of someone at TK to get an answer but have not had any luck.

Today, the Company announced plans to hire new pilots in the August-September 2007 timeframe. Part of this new hire process will be the recruitment of Interview Captains. Information about these Interview Captain positions will be posted on SkyNet.

Qualifications for Interview Captains are as follows:

• You must be a current line pilot
• You must have 2,000 minimum hours as a UAL Captain
• You must have a minimum three years UAL Captain experience
• Evaluation experience is preferred, but not required.

Please note that Standards Captains, FODMs, management pilots or pilots on sick leave are not eligible to be Interview Captains.

The Interview Captain selection process will be modeled on the Line Check Airman process. Apply via SkyNet, and initial screenings will be made through your Flight Office. Finalists will interview with Human Resources and Flight Operations by mid-July.

Good morning. This is Sean Donohue with a Hotline on Tuesday, June 19. I'm very pleased to announce that starting this summer, United will begin interviewing and hiring new pilots for the first time since 2001.
This is good news – for our pilots, our customers, and for United Airlines. These new pilots will enable us to ensure the highest level of service for our customers, while maintaining an efficient, flexible schedule.
We anticipate that by the end of the June we will have offered recall to all furloughed pilots and those who plan to return to United will do so by September, except for those on active military status or an approved leave of absence. Driven in part by increases in international flying – we anticipate hiring and training up to 100 new pilots in 2007. The exact number depends on changes to the mandatory pilot retirement age currently being considered by Congress. We expect the first new hire pilots will head into training at DENTK in September and be out flying the line as early as December.
To help ensure that this moves forward efficiently, we have selected a veteran B737 captain from the line who will help administer the application and hiring process. With feedback from ALPA, United is developing a new online hiring process which includes an online application screening followed by in-person interviews with line pilots. Prospective flight officer candidates should visit United's website – www.united.com –for further details on the hiring process.
New pilot hiring is an important step for our division and our company – and this development underscores the growing competitive position of United overall. We are looking for great pilots, but also for good people who will be with United for a long time. If you know any good candidates, I hope you will let them know and direct them to United's website. Been with them for 6 years and 6 months. Oh yeah, I've been furloughed 5 years and four months. And still being paid less than what I started with.

I don't know where they're at as far as the classes go, but here's what's posted on United's skynet, current as of 13 July:

So far, 640 pilots of 2172 are no longer on the seniority list. It looks like 1/3 of furloughees are resigning.

To all furloughees,

United is nearing the end of the recall process! With the announcement of the 23 July and 20 August 2007 recall classes a total of 260 “Final Recall Offers” have been mailed to fill the training positions in these two classes. Currently there are an additional 4 Furloughees who have “voluntarily” come off of bypass for these two classes and there are another 4 Furloughees returning from LOA who will be attending these two recall classes as well. All of the 130 pilots remaining on the Furlough Bypass list will most likely receive their final recall offer in the next few weeks for the last recall class, which is tentatively planned for early to mid September 2007. With the culmination of the recall process the company has announced its intent to start hiring immediately, and is planning on hiring about 100 pilots by the end of the year with the first “New Hire” class to be in early October 2007.

As a side note, the 2007 Seniority list will be published in a few weeks. It will be made available on the UAL MEC web page as soon as it becomes available, as we have done in the past. It is very important with each new issuance of the seniority list that you verify that you are on the list and that your position on the new “official” seniority list is accurate. Contractually you only have 60 days from the date of distribution, or return from LOA or vacation, to protest any “omission or incorrect listing” affecting your seniority (Section 6-B).

So, they are saying October for newhire classes now. They previously had stated that it might be September or October, so it sounds like they have chosen the latter. Will there be only one class in August and one in September?

Congrats to everyone on the list. This is the end of a rather long and dramatic saga. Time to add some fresh blood and increase the list for a change. Even though it is no pay raise, it seems like hiring should be a morale booster for the pilots at United.
