Talk about strength in numbers..........got the letter yesterday, staying at Blue......slept quite well last night!

I'm going to try not to look back at this decision, but I do feel good about it, and it's good to read that I'm not the only one resigning from what was once my dream job as well.

good luck to us all!

That's a big part of the 'hard part' in the decision. That UAL we remember WAS the dream job. It's hard to think it isn't that way anymore. I can't imagine it any other way. There's a GNC across the street that I went to. Saw a TK employee there and told him I had just resigned. He was very doom and gloom, also. I think it's what you make of it, but clearly it won't be what we think we were going back to.

I'm curious what the vacancy awards were-anyone got em?

Guppy,

Not sure if you know who i am, but we were in the same ground school at Scenic air in 1995 when we were told supprisingly that our class was not going to fly the Twater after all....instead we would all go fly singles in Page or Sedona. We were all bummed out because it was a setback to us not to get the twin turbine time that we all needed to climb the ladder. Those were the days when guys/galls had to have 2000+ hours and 500+ multi just to get the chance to fly a turboprop at a regional.

Well that "setback" turned into the best summer of my life and the most fun flying I have ever done...and will ever do. Since then your career and mine have paralled almost exactly...Same regional...(although i didn't go to Emery)...same Major...same crappy furlough...same decision to stay where we are now or to go back to an airline that we dreamed of flying for ever since we were kids.

Well I too have decided to stay (SWA). The only paralled I can draw is that I hope that this career setback will only pay off for us at the end of our careers when we can sit back and know that we made the right decision for our families. At least we will always know that we made it, enen though it was short lived.

Oh, and one more thing....I think what UAL didn't do for the furloughees is just chicken ********************. They sold us down the river on so many things it makes me just sick. Then they offer us to come back with no credit for time spent on furlough, and oh yeah...you need to come back into Denver to take another company physical!...they can just kiss my rump.

Good luck,
Till me meet again my friend,
TJ

Hey J

Of course I remember you. Congrats on SWA!

Flying out of SEZ was some memorable flying. Remember the Navajo Taco at Gouldings? I remember a particular NW 747 captain who would jumpseat on many of my "airline" runs between SEZ and PHX. He told me that he'd love to be doing the type of flying that I was doing. I thought he was crazy and told him I wanted to be in his shoes. Now I understand what he meant.

I can't tell you how much I miss flying small planes. When we were at United PRH (pre-rag heads) I could afford to rent a C172 once in a while. I just priced one out here at our lone FBO at $106/hr! CFI for a checkout would be $49/hr. Sadly, it was just too expensive. I just can't justify spending hundreds of dollars for something that has no tangible value. Too many projects around the house that need that money first.

BTW...the best summer of my life was when I took my LOA from UA in '02. Went back to AK to fly singles and met my wife then. Hiked the Chilkoot Trail, camped, fished, day hiked, drank beer with my buds at least 3x/wk, got some sweet pix, almost came to blows with customs agent, made lifelong friends. Lived like a college student and loved it. Can't wait to get back. If only JB had a Juneau domicile....hmmmm...one can dream!

Hopefully my journey and yours will lead to many good times.

All the best, my friend.

... I'm curious what the vacancy awards were-anyone got em?

Here are the awards for October 31 training. I'll post just the F/O positions for the 300 and 320. There were no 767 awards this round. The unfilled vacancies will be awarded to the returning furloughee classes in the coming months.

To all those returning, welcome back. To those of you who have decided to remain at your current job, I can certainly understand that very sound logic, and I wish you the best in your future flying career. I know we have lost a lot of extremely talented pilots as a result of the lack of credit afforded those pilots who spent a lot of time on furlough.

I'm coming up on the end of my LOA and planning on staying at Blue also. Just don't think there is much to go back to... Would of bet a million dollars against it 7 years ago at the newhire dinner. Oh well. Good luck to all.

I would assume they sent out about 100-150 letters for the July 23rd class. Therefore, there are about 300-250 remaining. The people who said new hires by October are correct.

On the award post, what do the ML, LA, and LS mean?

I'm guessing mil leave, leave of absence, and ..............

I got my letter yesterday and turned down recall. 11/15/99 DOH. Good luck to those who return and good luck to those who move on. Either way, it's nice to finally have some closure.

this may be the wrong place to put this but I will see. Since things are looking like United will soon be hiring, for those of you that are currently there and have experiences there, what is it like? and is it as bad as everybody says...that United will be gone in 5 years or whatever limitation they want to put on it? I really want to get on with United, and I think these years of hiring comming up are my chance. I understand its not what it was, but I just want to make sure I dont step into some quicksand.

plnegoofy,

I guess this is why I limit myself to this site so limited, as it is amazing that there are many out there that want to get on here but ask questions likes yours......

I would like to learn what is so bad that you hear about UAL other than the same old gossip out there for so long......

I guess it is all realative...to me I am happy doing a job that I love and flying equipment that I am happy with and going to destinations I want to layover at.

I speak with several of my good friends that work in the military to other majors...And, I guess things are not as great as they once were here at UAL but we are definately a carrier that will hopefully raise the bar if operating in the black occurs......Times are challenging for everyone and it always will be...it is never been a secret that UAL wants to merge, so I am not sure what exactly you care to know....If you think this is quicksand then you might want to rethink your career goals....I have heard that from guys that have worked here 20 years and just think WTF....another guy saying the sky is falling...
