We'll go to the Moon baby, the MOON!!! Seriously, we really don't have to worry about your flights to Latin America or the Carribbean, since you won't have the ability to get any slots at the airports we fly from. (ie--LGA, BOS, ATL, DCA, etc) If you want to go MHT to St Thomas, go right ahead. We have connections via DCI and our SkyTeam members to fill our planes. Will you go to Europe? I thought Gary Kelly said ATA would, not you. Look at your Hawaii connections---via OAK. Only one other airline flies from OAK to Hawaii, and that is Aloha. We really don't care. Our 764 from SFO to HNL does ok load wise, but carries a lot of cargo, and even that 764 is getting switched to fly more Europe and a 767-300 will replace it, still carrying cargo. This whole Europe thing started when Ryanair stated they may start service from Ireland, thanks to being shot down in a balked aquistion of Aer Lingus. Did you know that? Probably not.
You say I don't think I understand what the effect of our BK had on many people......Hmmmm. I saw many of my friends furloughed. I saw the worried looks on many people's faces. I was THERE, and you were not. I still enjoyed flying planes, but I was worried. Overall, it taught me to enjoy the here and now, and love the fact that my wife brings in big bucks. Always MARRY RICH.
Could it be that maybe some SWA stews are geting OLDER, and, gasp, fatter? Um, yeah. It happens. Do I think our stews are all svelt? No, but everyone thinks all of yours are drop dead hot. Wrong.
The problem with you Southwest guys is that you think you have struck the jackpot, from day 1. That really wasn't the case in the late 90s. Many Southwest Captains left Southwest to go to United in the late 90s, and ofcourse then were furloughed after 9-11. It is great that some of your management made some great moves and hedged, and it is great that LCCs have done better over the last few years when "less was more" to some pax. You guys just hate it when other pilots say they would NOT want to fly or do what you do. GASP! Huh? That's right, not everyone wants to fly for Southwest. When someone says that, it is blasphemy. You are paid well, but most of your trips resemble a regional schedule, with multiple legs. For the days you do a transcon, there is always one extra leg that kicks your arse. No thanks. Don't get so defensive, not everyone wants to fly a 737 the rest of their life, for multiple legs per day, with 25 minute turns. If you can't describe your job like I just did, you are dreaming. Enjoy all that time off when you are home, sleeping it all off.
Bye Bye--General Lee
