Could see 500 or more hired this year when all is said and done. Source? Director of training. Even if not 500 total this year, two classes of 24 a month being scheduled at least through April of next year.

Nothing new. Back in 2000 Plato Rhyne Jr said they'd be hiring "60 a month forever!..."

Albie:
When I went through one of my recurrents years ago, I was told that HR just didn't know how to turn off the hiring process! They overhired, and 9/11 was the perfect reason to shed some pilots. In late 2000 we had 10250 pilots, and now I think we're somewhere around 6800 or so.
<sigh> how times change!

Basically, they will be hiring this way for the current aircraft that are on order. They have not even done the projections for the yet to be named orders.
Do not expect to see the hiring process to be changed at all. There is a tradition to it. If anything was eliminated it would be the medical. The psyche will stay there for liability reasons.

I'd love nothing more than for Delta to have 10,000 pilots again, and be the flagship of the south. In my fantasy they even make enough to start repaying some of those retirements....some of my favorite role models are retired Delta captains.

You just might....Word on the campus is a very large a/c order. Just in time to inflate or deflate the stock price!

Unfortunately, I don't see that happening! It looks like with management pawning it off to the pbgc, that not be happening!

Man, when I started out as a lowly flight engineer many moons ago, I got the standard DL Captain brief. "I better not wake up and catch you sleeping!":D

Wow, that would be amazing. 48 a month you say? Good.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Congrats guys...
Sounds like great news!

Always

My friends are all back in the cockpit! So I would love to see them get some lay off proofing!

That would be awesome. I'm still patiently awaiting an e-mail and would love to fill one of those slots.

I had an interview on March 21st, got the call for a class date on May 3rd. 24 per class is a good number the guy who called me from HR said.

Basically, if you are successfully in the next few weeks you will probably be in class before your PRIA background check comes back.
The guys that interviewed last week were told June 18th at the latest.
A few people who have indicated "no-notice" on their apps have been called for the May 14th class.
A disclaimer though. There is no order that they go in, in the pool. There is no first in first out. They are looking at creating a dynamic in each class. If you interviewed yesterday and fit it, then your chances are better than others. Either way, the hiring is just getting started and unless something catastrophic happens it will continue for the foreseeable future.

I hope your rumors are correct. I was in a briefing/roadshow at JFK last week and I was told that they were going to hire/bypass 200 more pilots this year. I like the other rumors better. Good luck to all it is still a good job and a lot of fun!!!

Not necessarily true. Most of the people that are not Military are from DCI carriers. That said most regional guys work for DCI carriers. :)

Not to drift on the thread here, but how many guys have by-passed recall? I know they can by-pass for up to 10 years. I know lots of them are also coming back then going right back out on mil-leave to acrue longevity, so I guess I should ask how many active pilots are there and how many fellas are by-passing or on mil-leave? If a big aircraft order is announced do you think this will cause a flood of by-pass guys and mil-leave guys who aren't committed to come back? That could throw a wrench into some of the newhire numbers.

IMO, a big aircraft order isn't going to cause any bypass or mil guys to come back until they have to. A payraise, however, might.

You're really gonna fit in with the culture over there. I think FDJ2 could be your mentor.

Outta left field, rant off.

Hey Bavarian Chef, you guys still having trouble filling classes? People are leaving JB quicker than a rain storm cancelling your flights! A lot of JB people coming back here, I wonder if its because they didn't fit in with your culture over there?

Outta left field, rant off

I think its more of a swing and a miss!;)

Really? A lot? Is that 5 or 50?

Actually I was speaking just to Truckdriver, not to every other jb pilot.

You Dixie fellers keep proving my point though. Notice how I took the high road. Again.

In my opinion nothing anymore will cause a great migration of bypasses to come back. Any bypasses that wanted to come back would have allready because there were very big financial incentives to be back beofre we exited bankruptcy. Now that we are out the incentives are gone. You will see the MLOA guys trickling back but there will be no mass of bypasses like there has been, there is no reason now like before the bk.
